Say the word “missionary” and many believers will immediately think of a heroic figure working in a remote, undeveloped part of the world. And, of course, that is a true picture, for a few.
However, all believers are called to be missionaries in the setting God has planted them. Some are called to serve their street or office In the course of their daily lives. Others bring the good news and good works of Jesus on short term mission trips to other parts of their country, And some, a minority, will move to another culture and serve.
The cell church can equip all believers with a missionary mindset no matter which mission filed they serve. Believers are much more likely to take up their calling when they have grown in the environment of a holistic cell group than if they are simply spectators in a worship service or class. Some may even find that their involvement in a group is the first on-ramp toward ministry in another culture. A group with an outreach focus will light the fires of missionary service in unexpected ways.
