Mission Trip Bonding

robMission Trip Bonding

by Rob Hastings

Rather than writing a testimony of a cell being involved as a group in missions, I’d like to share what happens to groups when they do missions together. I’ve gone on many short terms missions trips, as well as spent 3 years in Guatemala hosting short terms missions teams. In my opinion, there is nothing that compares with a group of people sharing the experience of a short term missions trip. There is a camaraderie built between people that have “done missions” together that is difficult if not impossible to replicate with any other scenario.

I still hear from people that I went with on short term missions trips. They always have such wonderful memories of the events that took place, even if the event was not that wonderful in the first place. I saw groups come to Guatemala that had personality clashes and disputes among the members at the beginning of the trip that had changed to deep care, concern and friendship by the end. I can’t over estimate the value of doing something of importance together as a team, where each member has the opportunity to experience something new., Mission trips provide the challenges that stir team members to use their gifts and face the obstacles together. Deep community is birthed from experiences like those. My advice, make it happen. Just do it!
