Pilgrim’s Progress, Dorothy on her way to Oz, and YOU, have this in common; there is a desired destination, a road that must be traveled and many hazards along the way that can ruin the journey!
Where are you along the way? Just beginning with the hopeful goal in mind? Tired along the road? Distracted and tempted to give up going altogether? Feeling a little sleepy and losing your focus? I think you may see my point; without some concrete indicators, way-markers and road signs you will either stay home and go nowhere, or you may not stay the course to arrive at your hopeful goal.
Here’s a blog I wrote in June, 2008 to take Goal setting a bit further down the road:
The acronym S.M.A.R.T. has been used with slightly different variations both in the Cell communities and in business applications. Here are some of the variations which can be used to provide a comprehensive definition for your goal setting:
S – specific, significant, stretching
Well defined, easily understood, and a little bigger than YOU.
M – measurable, meaningful, motivational
You should be able to tell where you are in the process at any time.
A – agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, action-oriented
If everyone involved has agreement on the goal, whether at the Cell group, next leader or church-wide level, the team will contribute more successfully.
R – realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, results-oriented
Do we have the resources and knowledge to accomplish this, do we have a ‘word from God’ on it, do we believe the Holy Spirit will enable us to do this…?
T – time-based, timely, tangible, trackable
Do we have enough time to accomplish / or have we allowed too much time?
Example:
- Specific: Each existing Cell leader multiply one new leader by the end of the year. (new leaders will open new cells)
- Measurable: With the Equipping Track in place, each existing leader knows the steps their Multiplication leader has taken and what still needs to be completed by them to open the new Cell group.
- Agreed upon: this is not a ‘forced’ goal, but one that is discussed thoroughly with the existing leader until agreement is reached – now we can pray it through together!
- Realistic: Faith and history say, “YES”, this is doable, how else will we accomplish the Great Commission effectively?
- Time-based and tangible: the date is set and smaller goals can be achieved between now and then to reach the end goal. Results become very tangible when the new Cell Opens!
Everyone involved can celebrate the new leader and the new family of believers they have assembled to expand the Kingdom of God.

El Progreso del Peregrino, Dorothy en su camino a Oz, y ustedes, tienen algo en común, no hay un destino deseado, un camino que debe recorrer y ¡muchos peligros en el camino que puede arruinar el viaje!
¿Dónde estás en el camino? ¿Sólo empezando la meta de la esperanza en la mente? ¿Cansado por el camino? ¿Distrado y tentados a dejar todo? ¿Sientes un poco de sueño y pérdida de enfoque? Creo que usted puede ver mi punto de vista, sin algunos indicadores concretos, la forma de los marcadores y señales de tráfico son o bien quedarse en casa e ir a ningún lado, o puede que no mantener el rumbo para llegar a su meta de esperanza.
Aqu hay un blog que escrib en junio de 2008 para tomar el establecimiento de metas un poco más abajo de la carretera:
El acrónimo S.M.A.R.T. (inteligente) se ha utilizado con variaciones ligeramente diferentes, tanto en las comunidades celulares y en las aplicaciones comerciales. Estas son algunas de las variaciones que se pueden utilizar para proporcionar una definición exhaustiva en la fijación de metas:
S – Especficos, precisos y estirables
Bien definido, de fácil comprensión, y un poco más grande que tú.
M – Medibles, significativos y motivacionales.
Usted debe ser capaz de decir dónde se encuentra en el proceso en cualquier momento.
A – acordado, alcanzables, realistas, aceptables, orientado a la acción
Si todos los involucrados tiene un acuerdo sobre el objetivo, ya sea en el grupo de la célula, el próximo lder o el nivel de toda la iglesia, el equipo contribuirá con más éxito.
R – Realistas, relevante, razonables, valioso, orientado a los resultados
¿Tenemos los recursos y conocimientos para lograr esto, tenemos la “palabra de Dios en él, no creemos que el Espritu Santo nos permitirá hacer esto?
T – basado en el tiempo, oportuno, tangible, rastreable
¿Tenemos tiempo suficiente para llevar a cabo / o hemos permitido demasiado tiempo?
Ejemplo:
- Especfico: Cada lder existente de la célula debe multiplicar un nuevo lder para el final del año. (Los nuevos lderes abrirán nuevas células)
- Medibles: Con el equipo en su lugar, cada lder actual conoce los pasos de su lder en multiplicación y lo que aún debe ser completado por ellos para abrir el grupo de células nuevas.
- Acordado: esto no es un objetivo “forzado”, pero se discute a fondo con el lder actual, hasta el acuerdo alcanzado – ¡ahora podemos orar juntos todos juntos!
- Realista: La fe y la historia dice: “S”, esto es factible, ¿cómo vamos a cumplir la Gran Comisión de manera efectiva?
- En función del tiempo: se ajusta la fecha y los pequeños objetivos que se pueden lograr de aqu a entonces para alcanzar la meta final. Los resultados se vuelven muy tangibles ¡cuando se abre una nueva célula! Todos los involucrados pueden celebrar el nuevo lder y la nueva familia de creyentes que se han reunido para expandir el Reino de Dios.
