Honoring Leaders in a Mega Church

The way to honor leaders at Elim Church is a bit different because of our mega-church nature. We hold a once per year “church growth” conference which focuses on cell ministry.

Unfortunately our 5,000 seat auditorium is not enough to accommodate the entire church. Thus, during the conference week, we only allow cell leaders and supervisors to attend. When we first began these conferences, we had to give each leader an identification badge that would allow him or her to enter the auditorium. Whoever did not have this identification could not enter. After a few years, the congregation understood that the conference was only for leaders, so we got rid of the badge system. People now understand that the conference is an exclusive privilege for cell leaders.

In 2011, on our 25th anniversary of working with cells, we decided to honor the leaders that had been persevering during the 25 year of cell ministry. We wanted to bring together on that date, not only the leaders and supervisors, but also the hosts. That forced us to use the national stadium to accommodate them all.

Nevertheless, we did it, and we gave a medal to each of the leaders who had persited for 25 years. Just as faithful soldiers receive their medals, these persistent cell leaders passed by joyfully to receive their recognition. The rest of the church had to follow the events through our TV channel and our radio stations. The reality is that the entire congregation does not fit in the stadium either.

At Elim, if anyone wants to serve in a ministry, he or she must be a cell leader–whether the ministry is a deacon, an elder, a musician, etc. Anyone who wants to minister in an official capacity at Elim must first become a cell leader. The privileges of ministry are reserved to those who are already involved in our vision of cell ministry.

Honrando lderes de una mega iglesia.

La manera de honrar a los lderes en iglesia Elim responde a su naturaleza de mega iglesia. Una vez al año se realiza una conferencia interna sobre crecimiento de la iglesia. Es una semana dedicada a fortalecer los conocimientos en relación al trabajo celular. Lastimosamente, nuestro auditorio de 5,000 sillas no es suficiente para acomodar a toda la iglesia. De manera que durante la semana de conferencia la asistencia se restringe a solamente los lderes y supervisores. Los demás miembros de la iglesia no pueden asistir. Al inicio de estas conferencias, era necesario entregar a cada lder una identificación para poder ingresar al auditorio. Quién no tuviese esa identificación no poda entrar. Después de algunos años de hacerlo de esa manera, la congregación comprendió que la conferencia era solamente para lderes. Ahora ya no es necesario usar las identificaciones. Las personas han entendido que la conferencia es un privilegio exclusivo que pertenece a los lderes.

Cuando cumplimos nuestros 25 años trabajando con células, en 2011, decidimos honrar a los lderes que haban sido perseverantes durante todo ese tiempo. Ese da quisimos reunir no solo a los lderes y supervisores sino también a los anfitriones. Eso nos obligó a utilizar el estadio nacional para acomodarlos a todos. No obstante, lo hicimos y entregamos una medalla a cada uno de los lderes perseverantes. Como soldados fieles pasaron con mucha alegra a recibir su reconocimiento. El resto de la iglesia tuvo que seguir los acontecimientos a través de nuestro canal de televisión y nuestras emisoras de radio. Tampoco en el estadio cabe toda la congregación.

Para recibir cualquier función dentro del servicio en la iglesia es una condición ser lder. Sea que se trate de un diácono, de un anciano, de un músico, todos necesitan ser lderes para recibir esa función. Los privilegios están reservados para quienes están directamente involucrados en la obra.

Estas son algunas de las maneras cómo se honra a los lderes en Elim.
