Making Disciples Who Make Disciples

Back in 1990, I was pondering how to solve the problem of cell leaders burning out trying to mentor all the cell members. Then I John 2:12-14 came to my attention. Here was the secret: I discovered how disciples make disciples!

I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father.

I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Note: the Little Children know they have a Daddy and their sins are forgiven, but they do not know how to overcome the evil one.

Who better to disciple them than the Young Men, who can say, “You know, I had your problem a few months ago, but this is what I have learned about rebuking the evil one.”

Note: the Young Men are virile, but have not yet produced a Little Child. Who better to help them lead seekers to Christ than a Father?

The Little Child > mentored by the Young Man > mentored by the Father, who supervises the mentoring of the Little Child and the Young Man! “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am in the midst.”

I can still remember when I explained my new insight to 56 Cell Members in Singapore. I asked them if they could easily identify these three groups in their cells. They did! I suggested they form Triads from them and they did!

Immediately we began to realize that the discipling of one other person using this formula solved the problem of burning out cell leaders. It also revealed a more rapid maturing of Young Men and Fathers because they were responsible for discipling another person.

More significant, the Fathers who were so developed began to produce sufficient Cell Leaders to handle our growth. Using this formula, we grew from 600 to 7,000 in 5 years.

Entonces Juan 2:12-14 vino a mi atención.

¡Te va a gustar!
