Vision with Power

As believers in Christ we pursue truth, we live by truth and arrange our days based on truth. The Bible is our source and foundation of truth. Why stray from the scriptures and their documentation of the early church practices in forming our truth about ecclesiology? God’s word has shown us that the “church” started as a movement, birthed by the Holy Spirit following the ascension of Christ the resurrected Lord. Over the last 1,700 years we have manipulated, maneuvered, and manufactured a form of religious practices that have drained the life out of the movement, leaving us with a set of religious practices that offer form without power.

That condition leaves “church” at risk of fulfilling 2 Timothy 3:1-5; You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

What a contrast to the testimony of the early church in Acts 2:42-47; All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper*), and to prayer. 43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity*— 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

The simple question: “Which condition is most desirable?” And “What form did God create for us to dwell in as the church?”

Let’s choose a vision that supports the word of God and His formation of the Body of Christ and that lives by the Power of God, not men.
