Simple!

My practical side asks simply, “Why not do it the way the boys in the Bible did?” (not excluding the ladies of course). The rest just seems to complicate things. Certainly we need the clearest theology and the Bible is clear, so we won’t need to go searching for ways to alter it, will we? Reading the Acts of the Apostles, I see it; house to house, home and temple, all the practices of God’s people take place in the smallest of settings (a few gathering to pray at the riverside in a town where there is no synagogue) and the larger venue of daily in the temple courts. The Holy Spirit confirms the gospel in the home of a centurion soldier where he has gathered his family, friends and servants. Apostles write His words to a growing church that is spreading all over the world, their letters being circulated to both large and small groups of eager disciples desiring to know the foundations of these apostles who are in agreement with the prophets who preceded them.

I conclude: if you were a member of Christ’s body in the first few generations, you would not have learned the words of faith outside of the dual processes of home and temple meetings! The new believers were assimilated into a community of other established saints and heard the words that shaped faith and practice while dwelling together in unity. We don’t seek a complicated theology that builds barriers between ourselves and God, especially if it puts another man in the middle. The only one deserving of that spot is Jesus!

¡Simple!
