Prior to our transition to become a cell church, it was clear that we were only emphasizing the celebration wing. We focused almost exclusively on the celebrations during Elim’s first nine years.
When we started the cell church transition, it was necessary to balance the celebration in the building with the cells in the houses. To do so, some activities carried out during the week had to be suspended. Some members, accustomed to our celebration focus, struggled to understand why some activities in the church building were being suspended and replaced by meetings in the homes.
Some even thought of the new emphasis as a “human church growth technique.” In reality, we started to practice the New Testament model for the church!
When cell ministry gained momentum, the church began to understand the meaning behind the two types of meetings. People began to capture the cell vision and understand that they were practicing the New Testament lifestyle. Today, both types of meetings are very natural to the church. From being a church that valued only celebration, today, we treasure both house meetings and celebration gatherings.
Actually, you might be surprised to know that we only keep statistics for what takes place in cell gatherings and don’t keep track of how many attend the celebration services. For Elim members, the cells are the church. The celebration is to celebrate together and enjoy the oneness of the body of Christ.

El equilibrio entre celebración y célula

Antes de nuestra transición para llegar a ser una iglesia celular era evidente que el énfasis se encontraba totalmente en la celebración. No hubo más que celebraciones durante los primeros nueve años de vida de Elim.
Cuando se comenzó la transición fue necesario equilibrar la celebración en el edificio con las células en las casas. Para ello, se tuvo que suspender algunas actividades que se realizaban durante la semana.
Algunos miembros, ya habituados al único modelo de la celebración, tuvieron muchas dificultades para comprender por qué se suspendan actividades en el edificio de la iglesia para sustituirlas por las reuniones en las casas.
Algunos incluso llegaron a pensar que se trataba de un recurso humano para el crecimiento. ¡En realidad era comenzar a practicar el modelo del Nuevo Testamento para la iglesia!
Cuando el trabajo celular cobró fuerza, la iglesia comprendió el sentido de los dos tipos de reuniones. Captaron la visión celular y las reuniones en las casas alcanzaron su dimensión bblica. Hoy en da, son muy naturales para la iglesia los dos tipos de reuniones. De ser una iglesia que solamente valoraba la celebración, hoy ha llegado a ser una iglesia que valora mucho las reuniones en casa también. Prueba de ello es que no se llevan estadsticas de asistencia a la celebración sino solamente de la asistencia a las células. Para los miembros de Elim, las células son la iglesia. La celebración es eso: celebrar que somos una misma iglesia.
