I’m writing this blog at the airport in Panama where I have to wait for a few hours before my flight to Brazil. Before leaving El Salvador, I arrived at the San Salvador airport and the policeman at the air terminal door greeted me and shook my hand. He greeted me as if I had known him for years. The truth is that I had not seen him before.

As I entered the immigration, the two officers greeted me, asking where I was going to preach this time. When I finally entered the terminal, another elderly gentleman shook my hand and greeted me, wishing me a good trip.

I was already in the waiting room when another brother greeted me, even though he was not boarding my flight. Upon my arrival in Panama, as I was walking to look for my connection gate another man said, “I read your article in the newspaper and it is very good. Have a nice trip.” Oh my Gosh! How far does this church go? What other surprises await me up ahead?

The church is everywhere. It is located in each one of our 7,000 cells, and it is in the building that we use in San Salvador. The church is located in the cells when they meet in the houses on Saturdays. The church is also in the building when we gather for celebration.

Both meetings are important. In one, the members exercise their evangelistic work. In the other, the members are edified and encouraged. Evangelism, fellowship, and edification are the major components of our two wing church: the cell meeting and the celebration meeting.

When the church gathers for celebration, it presents an impressive picture of a single purpose. When the church meets in the cells, it scatters throughout the city and exerts a powerful influence in every street and neighborhood. Very few can escape such an extensive network.

I think that is why I also see myself entertwined in this network whereever I go.

¿Adónde está la iglesia?

Escribo este blog en el aeropuerto de Panamá en donde debo esperar unas horas antes de mi vuelo a Brasil. Al salir de El Salvador llegué al aeropuerto y el polica que estaba en la puerta de la terminal aérea me saludó dándome la mano. Era un hombre joven y sonriente que me saludó como si yo le conociera desde haca mucho. Lo cierto es que no lo haba visto antes.

Al ingresar al área de migración, los dos agentes que revisan los pasaportes también me saludaron preguntándome adonde iba a predicar esta vez. Cuando finalmente ingresé para buscar mi puerta de abordaje otro señor de edad avanzada me dio la mano y me saludo deseándome un buen viaje.

Ya estaba en la sala de espera cuando otro hermano ingresó para saludarme, aunque él no abordara mi vuelo. Al llegar a Panamá, caminaba buscando mi puerta de conexión cuando otro hombre me dijo: “Le su artculo en el periódico y está muy bueno. Buen viaje.” ¡Por Dios! ¿Hasta dónde llega está iglesia? ¿Qué otras sorpresas me aguardarán en el camino?

La iglesia se encuentra en todo lugar. Se encuentra en cada una de las más de 7,000 células que tenemos en la actualidad y se encuentra en el edificio que usamos en San Salvador. La iglesia se encuentra en las células cuando se reúne los das sábados en las casas. La iglesia también se encuentra en el edificio cuando nos reunimos para las celebraciones.

Ambas reuniones son importantes. En una, los miembros ejercen su trabajo evangelizador. En la otra, los miembros asisten para ser edificados y animados. Evangelismo, comunión, edificación son los grandes componentes de nuestra iglesia con dos alas: la reunión de célula y la reunión de celebración.

Cuando la iglesia se reúne para la celebración presenta un cuadro impresionante, miles en un solo propósito. Cuando la iglesia se reúne en las células se encuentra en toda la ciudad. En cada barrio, en cada calle. Ejerce su influencia alcanzando a otros. Muy pocos pueden escapar de esta red tan extensa. Creo que por ello es que yo también me veo atrapado en esta red que se extiende por todo sitio.

The Regeneration Church in Dnepropretskov is a two winged structure. Their large wing is awesome. Midway through each service the pastor qiuietly invites the Holy Spirit to come and heal and deliver, and He does! Never in the western world have I experienced such awesome moments. As everyone waits in prayer for His transforming Presence to fall, the demon possessed fall on the floor crying out and here and there physical healings take place without any interference from the pastor.

Vladimir Muntyean , the pastor, was raised in a Ukrainian city Russia had turned into a secret military base. Until Perestroika in 1993, religion of any sort was banned.

At age 20, doctors pronounced him terminally ill. Muntyean knew nothing at all about God. In desperation, he located a Bible and read about Jesus and His power to heal and raise the dead. At this time he was weak and thin but began to fast and pray: “Jesus, if you are able to heal, please touch me!” He was instantaneously, totally, healed!

From that time on He never doubted the power of God to heal and deliver. His meetings saw hundreds of people healed and swelled to thousands converted in the public meetings. However, he found no way to mentor these new believers until he read about the cell movement. As he formed cells, he found Russian words appropriate for the leadership team. The “Cell Supervisor” was over 5 cells, said the literature, so he called them in Russian “Pentecostals” (5 = Penta) and since “Zone Pastors” were over 100 (Centa) he called them “Centurions.”

The large and small wings exploded and the church needed a building. The Ukrainian population earns about $319/month. To purchase the site of their building, the cell members even sold their wedding rings! Their sacrifice included working in 24 hour shifts to volunteer all the construction of the old warehouse they converted into a 3,000 seat ‘Temple.”

Because the chairs are too close to the platform, the people you view standing on it are making their confessions of faith rather than gathering before the platform!

The Equipping Track I had developed, moving “Little Children” to become “Young Men” and then “Fathers” was printed in Russian and was introduced to all the 320 cells in mid-2011. The cells adopted a proposed calendar that has 4 phases: Consolidation, Foundation, Penetration, Cultivation.  The whole cell structure has experienced the formation of internal “triads” within each cell where the Father mentors the Young Man who mentors the Little Child. The growth has been astonishing. As I write, the cultivation of the households of new converts is taking place with hundreds being born again.

The “Two Wings,” the Celebrations and the Cells, are powerfully functioning in a way that “one winged” churches never experience! My prayer is that the western church would learn from our Ukrainian cells!

La ejemplar iglesia de dos alas

La Iglesia Regeneración en Dnepropretskov es una estructura de dos alas. Su ala grande es impresionante. A mitad de cada servicio el pastor invita al Espritu Santo en silencio que venga a sanar y liberar, y ¡Ã©l lo hace! Nunca en el mundo occidental, he experimentado momentos tan impresionantes. Como todo el mundo espera en oración por Su presencia transformadora a caer, posedo por el demonio que caiga en el suelo gritando y aqu y allá, sanidades fsicas se llevan a cabo sin ninguna interferencia del pastor.

Vladimir Muntyean, el pastor, fue criado en una ciudad ucraniana de Rusia y se convirtió en una base militar secreta. Hasta la Perestroika en 1993, donde la religión de cualquier tipo está prohibida.

A los 20 años, los médicos le declararon una enfermedad terminal. Muntyean no saba nada acerca de Dios. En su desesperación, se encuentra una Biblia y lee acerca de Jesús y su poder de sanar y resucitar a los muertos. En ese momento estaba débil y delgado, pero comenzó a ayunar y orar: “Jesús, si usted es capaz de curar, por favor, ¡Tócame!” Fue al instante, totalmente curado!

A partir de ese momento el nunca dudo del poder de Dios para sanar y liberar. Sus encuentros vieron cientos de personas ser sanas y a miles convertidos en las reuniones públicas. Sin embargo, no encontró manera de enseñar a estos nuevos creyentes, hasta que leyó sobre el movimiento de las células. A medida que formo grupos celulares, se encontró con las palabras rusas apropiado para el equipo de liderazgo. El “Supervisor de la célula” era de más de 5 células, dice la literatura, por lo que les llama en ruso “pentecostales” (5 Penta =) y ya que “los pastores de la zona” tenan más de 100 (Centa) los llamó “Centuriones”.

Las alas grandes y pequeñas explotaron y la iglesia necesitaba un edificio. La población de Ucrania gana alrededor de $319/ al mes. Para comprar su edificio, los miembros de la célula, ¡incluso vendieron sus anillos de boda! Los “dos alas”, las Celebraciones y las células, están poderosamente funcionando de una manera que nunca la “una ala” iglesias experimentara. ¡Mi oración es que la iglesia occidental aprenda de nuestras células en Ucrania!

I remember the day I read Exodus 18:21-23 with understanding. I was pastoring a growing church; trying to preach all of the services, pastor all of the people, lead all of the meetings, etc. etc. etc. (If you are in church leadership you know what I’m talking about!) I wasn’t dealing with the numbers that Moses was, but the image was becoming familiar; i.e. Moses falling into bed every night, exhausted. People being sent away from his tent every day, disappointed.

The understanding came for me on a Friday. Earlier in the week, I promised a lady I would pray with her before gall bladder surgery on Friday. On Thursday night, I got a call from another family whose father was going into open heart surgery. “Pastor you have to come and pray with him. He’s not ready to meet the Lord,” they pleaded. The problem was the two surgeries were in different hospitals at the same time. I told the lady having gall bladder surgery I would have to see her later in the day. As I left home that Friday morning, the phone rang. Another family was calling to say their daughter had died during the night. What do I do now? How can I be in three places at the same time?

As I fell into bed that night I knew I had tried, and failed, to give real care to any of them. It was in that context that I read Exodus 18:21 NIV, “Select capable men from all the people…appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.” I wasn’t sure how to do that, but it sounded good. When I got to verse 23, I was convinced, “…you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.” I remember thinking, “That’s a deal I can live with.”

I remember the day—after the long journey of transitioning our church to the cell/celebration model—I walked into a hospital room to visit a member. Her cell group was there surrounding her with love. They welcomed me. We had a nice visit. They barely noticed when I left. The body was ministering to the body. As I walked away, I thought again, “That’s a deal I can live with.”

Cuidado Pastoral y de las células

Recuerdo el da que le Éxodo 18:21-23 entendiéndolo. Yo estaba pastoreando una iglesia en crecimiento, tratando de predicar todos los servicios, pastoreando toda la gente, Liderando todas las reuniones, etc., etc., etc. (Si usted está en el liderazgo de la iglesia ya sabes lo que estoy hablando!) Yo no estaba tratando con los números que Moisés lo hizo, pero la imagen se estaba convirtiendo en algo familiar, es decir, Moisés cae en la cama cada noche, exhausto. Las personas se les despedan de su tienda todos los das, decepcionados.

El entendimiento llegó para m el viernes. A principios de semana, le promet a una señora que iba a orar con ella antes de que tuviera una ciruga de la vescula ese viernes. El jueves por la noche, recib una llamada de otra familia cuyo padre estaba entrando en una ciruga de corazón abierta. “El pastor tiene que venir y orar con él”. No está preparado para reunirse con el Señor”, declaró. El problema fue que las dos operaciones fueron en hospitales diferentes al mismo tiempo. Le dije a la señora que tenia la ciruga de la vescula que tendra que verla más tardeen el da. Al salir de casa aquella mañana del viernes, el teléfono sonó. Otra familia estaba llamando para decir que su hija haba muerto durante la noche. ¿Qué hago ahora? ¿Cómo puedo estar en tres lugares al mismo tiempo?

Cuando cai en cama esa noche, supe que lo haba intentado, sin éxito, para dar atención real a cualquiera de ellos. Fue en ese contexto que le en Éxodo 18:21 NVI, “Selecciona hombres capaces de toda la gente… nombrar como funcionarios a través de miles, cientos, cincuenta y de diez.” No estaba seguro de cómo hacerlo, pero sonaba bien”. “Cuando llegué al versculo 23, yo estaba convencido, “… usted será capaz de soportar la tensión, y toda esta gente se irá a casa satisfecho.” Recuerdo que pensé: “Esa es una oferta con la que puedo vivir.”

Me acuerdo del da-después de que el largo camino de la transición de nuestra iglesia a la célula / el modelo celebración-Entré en una habitación de hospital a visitar un miembro. Su grupo de células era sus alrededores con amor. Me dieron la bienvenida. Tuvimos una agradable visita. Apenas notaron cuando me fui. El cuerpo estaba ministrando al cuerpo. Mientras me alejaba, volv a pensar: “Esa es una oferta con la que puedo vivir.”

I have dreamed of touching my entire population with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Similar underlying motivations touch you, as a leader in the body of Christ.  The cell driven strategy presents us with the biblical method for penetrating our populations with efficient and effective small groups in homes, businesses, parks, coffee shops, apartment buildings and housing developments.

Like small units of a well-trained army, a cell can perform the functions of reaching into segments of a larger village or city without being overwhelming.  However, the small unit MUST be connected to the larger mission of the entire army!  When we call the cells together in Celebration, it is in part an opportunity for these units to rally with others having the same marching orders.  Worship and prayer, equipping and training, motivation and instruction, hearing corporately from the Commander-in-Chief and recommitting to His cause, all occur in the Celebration.  Synergy of the cells amplifies the potential for greater evangelism and penetration of the city being targeted for Salvation.

Celebrando su Causa

He soñado con tocar mi población entera con el Evangelio de Jesucristo. Similares motivaciones subyacentes te tocan, como un lder en el cuerpo de Cristo. La estrategia basada en la célula se nos presenta con el método bblico para penetrar en nuestras poblaciones con grupos pequeños eficientes y eficaces en los hogares, empresas, parques, cafeteras, departamentos y urbanizaciones.

Al igual que las pequeñas unidades de un ejército bien entrenado, una célula puede realizar las funciones de alcanzar en segmentos de un pueblo o ciudad más grande sin ser abrumador. Sin embargo, la pequeña unidad debe estar conectada a ¡la misión grande de todo el ejército! Cuando llamamos a las células a reunirse en la celebración, es en parte una oportunidad para que estas unidades se reúnan con otros que tengan las mismas órdenes de marcha. La adoración y la oración, el equipamiento y la formación, la motivación y la instrucción, oyendo corporativamente desde el Comandante en Jefe y del compromiso con su causa, todo ocurre en la celebración. La sinergia de las células amplifica el potencial para una mayor penetración en la evangelización y en la ciudad, siendo objeto de la Salvación.

Last Saturday during my seminar in New Jersey, I talked about helping the transition process by posting physical cell indicators in the church building (e.g., cell maps, pictures of cell leaders, banners, etc.) so that those on Sunday will know that cell ministry is the priority. The host church of the seminar, Family Restoration Center, really picked up on this idea and decided to start work immediately on a map where they could place each leader’s photo, indicating the cell’s location.

Many Sunday attendees don’t know that the cell is the church and is just as important as the Sunday celebration. They get the impression that small-group ministry is just one of the many options to consider—rather than being as important as the celebration service. I’ve noticed that many churches don’t take advantage of the celebration service to promote cell ministry. There’s a tendency to separate the two rather than using the one to promote the other.

The lead pastor is the primary channel, although not the only one, to promote cell ministry during the celebration service. He’s the gatekeeper through which publicity flows. The pastor’s personal involvement (such as leading or attending a cell) allows the pastor to freely add cell examples to sermons.

Cell ministry can also find a great friend in the bulletin or other advertisements in the church. Some churches don’t have a bulletin, but if there’s even an occasional handout, it’s a great time to give cell ministry its proper place. Cell announcements should be given priority space so that those visiting will immediately see the heartbeat of the church and know where to go to get involved in a cell group.

Here are some idea to relate cell to celebration:

• asking a cell member who has been transformed through relational ministry—new friendships, special ministry times—to share what God has done

• hearing the testimony of someone who has received healing within the cell group

• presenting a new multiplication leader to the entire church

Those attending the Sunday celebration need to realize that the primary pastoral services of the church are offered through the cell system. If they need ministry and help, they can find it in a loving cell group.

Conectando la célula con la celebración

El sábado pasado durante mi seminario en Nueva Jersey, hablé de ayudar al proceso de transición mediante la publicación de los indicadores fsicos de las células en el edificio de la iglesia (por ejemplo, mapas de las células, fotos de los lderes de las células, pancartas, etc.) para que los domingos sepan que el ministerio celular es la prioridad. La iglesia anfitriona del seminario, el Centro de Restauración Familiar, de verdad recogió esta idea y decidió empezar a trabajar inmediatamente en un mapa donde se puede colocar la foto de cada lder, lo que indica la ubicación de la célula.

Muchos asistentes del domingo no saben que la célula es la iglesia y es tan importante como la celebración dominical. Tienen la impresión de que el ministerio de grupos pequeños es sólo una de las muchas opciones a considerar, en lugar de ser tan importante como el servicio de celebración. He notado que muchas iglesias no se aprovechan del servicio de celebración para promover el ministerio celular. Hay una tendencia a separar los dos en lugar de utilizar el uno para promover el otro.

El Pastor es el canal principal, aunque no el único, para promover el ministerio celular durante el culto de celebración. Él es el guardián a través del cual fluye la publicidad. La implicación personal del pastor (como el liderazgo o al asistir a una célula), permite al pastor añadir libremente ejemplos de células a las predicaciones.

El Ministerio celular también puede encontrar un gran amigo en el boletn o los anuncios de otros en la iglesia. Algunas iglesias no tienen un boletn, pero si hay incluso un folleto de vez en cuando, es un buen momento para dar el ministerio celular su propio lugar. Anuncios de los grupos celulares se les debe dar espacio prioritario a fin de que las personas que visitan vean de inmediato el latido del corazón de la iglesia y sepan a dónde ir a participar en un grupo celular.

Aqu hay unas ideas para relacionar la célula con la celebración:

• Pedir a un miembro de la célula que ha sido transformado a través de relaciones ministerio-nuevas amistades, el ministerio especial de los tiempos-para compartir lo que Dios ha hecho.
• Escuchar el testimonio de alguien que ha recibido sanidad en el grupo celular.
• La presentación de un nuevo lder de la multiplicación a toda la iglesia

Los asistentes en la celebración del domingo tienen que darse cuenta de que los servicios de atención primaria pastoral de la iglesia se ofrecen a través del sistema celular. Si necesitan el ministerio y ayuda, se puede encontrar en un grupo de células de amor.
