God and the Family

Carlos was a drunk. His drinking caused him to lose his family and job. He left his wife and eventually hooked up with a younger woman who was willing to put up with his alcoholism.

His growing problem landed him in the hospital where he almost died. At that time, he came to know Jesus in a cell near his house. Shortly after, his second wife also came to know Jesus and began attending the cell and the congregation.

Carlos talked with me some weeks later about his family situation. He had separated from his first wife and did not even know where she lived. He had been living several years with this second woman and asked me what he should do.

Since I knew all that had happened in his life without Christ, I suggested he divorced his wife and form a new home with his current wife. He listened very attentively but then he said: “Thanks for your advice. I understand but I feel I should go back and save my marriage.” That seemed crazy after so many years, but I respected his decision.

Several months went by, and one day he came to church and introduced me to his first wife. He had invited her to church, and she had agreed. Over time, his first wife also came to know Jesus. But now both women were in the same congregation.

We normally sing a welcome song at Elim, and to my amazement, during the welcome song, the two women approached each other and hugged in a very sincere manner. Their rivalry for the same man did not exist.

Over time, Carlos decided to leave the woman he had been living with and return to his first wife. The three continued congregating in the church because they understood that now they had new life in Christ. Several years later, she who had been Carlos second woman married another brother and formed a happy home.

Now they all serve in the church. Carlos is a deacon and both his wife and the other young girl are deaconesses. I will never forget this dramatic case and all that God can do for the family.

Dios y la Familia

Carlos era un borracho. A causa de eso perdió su casa y su trabajo. Abandonó a su esposa y con el tiempo se unió con otra mujer más joven que estuvo dispuesta a soportarle su alcoholismo.

Su problema creca y tuvo que ser hospitalizado cuando llegaba a niveles de intoxicación peligrosos. Fue entonces que conoció a Jesús en una célula cercana a su casa. Al poco tiempo su segunda mujer también conoció a Jesús y comenzó a asistir a las células y a la congregación.

Después de algunas semanas platicó conmigo y me contó su situación familiar. Ya haca varios años que se haba separado de su esposa y ni siquiera saba adónde viva. Con su segunda mujer llevaba ya varios años.

Él me preguntó qué poda hacer en su caso.

Tratándose que todo eso haba ocurrido en su vida sin Cristo le suger que se divorciara de su esposa y formara un nuevo hogar con su actual mujer. Él me escuchó muy atentamente pero luego me dijo: “Gracias por su consejo, lo entiendo pero yo siento que debo regresar y rescatar mi matrimonio”. Eso pareca una locura después de tantos años pero respeté su decisión.

Después de varios meses, un da llegó a la iglesia y me presentó a su esposa. La haba invitado a la iglesia y ella haba accedido. Con el tiempo, su esposa también conoció a Jesús. Pero ahora, la esposa y la amante estaban en la misma congregación.

En esa época cantábamos un canto de bienvenida. Al cantarlo los hermanos se saludaban entre s. Yo vea con sorpresa como estas dos mujeres se acercaban durante ese canto y se abrazaban de manera muy sincera. La rivalidad por el mismo hombre no exista.

Con el tiempo. Carlos decidió separarse de su segunda mujer y volver con su esposa. Siguieron congregándose en la iglesia porque los tres entendan que ahora tenan nueva vida en Cristo. Varios años después la que haba sido la segunda mujer de Carlos se casó con otro hermano y formaron un hogar feliz.

Ahora todos ellos sirven en la iglesia. Carlos es diácono y tanto su esposa como la otra joven son diaconisas. Nunca olvidaré este caso tan dramático y todo aquello que Dios puede hacer por la familia.
