Children in the Cell Church

Jesus loves children. He said while on earth, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there” (Matthew 19:14-15). God loves children and prioritizes them. So should we.

We know that children are the future, and in fact, they won’t be children very long. Some will even be our future leaders. U.S. statistics tell us that nearly half of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ as their savior do so before reaching the age of 13 (43%), and that two out of three born again Christians (64%) made that commitment to Christ before their 18th birthday (Barna, 2004). Of course, this may vary throughout the world, but the truth remains: we need to reach the children.

Cell churches prioritize children both in cell and celebration. I encourage, for example, churches to allow the children to stay in the adult cell for the icebreaker and worship time. During the Word time, the children can leave the adult cell and receive a personalized Bible lesson directed by one of the cell members (if necessary, the members can rotate in teaching this time). It also works to show a Christian video at this time.

When children are consistently attending the cell group, pray that God provides an adult or teenager who desires to lead a children’s cell group. This might be someone from your own adult cell group, or from your church. The children can then meet with their cell leader in a different room of the same house for the entire cell meeting (or at least for the lesson part). This is a normal, permanent children’s cell group that promotes a similar cell order-icebreaker, worship, lesson, prayer and outreach. The church should provide material for the children’s cell leader and all the support necessary.

Another option is to hold small groups for children in various neighborhoods around the city. An adult would lead this small group. These afternoon cells are a lot like the small groups of Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Children’s ministry on Sunday morning is also vital. You might not call it Sunday School, but it’s the same idea. Adults receive teaching during the celebration service, so shouldn’t the children? Yes, God calls children to celebrate and learn on Sunday.

This month on the JCG blog, we will be exploring different aspects of children in the cell church. Experienced cell church pastors will write 28 blogs on the topic of children in the cell church throughout the month of May.
We’ll cover:

• Week 1 (May 06-12): Biblical Foundations. What is the biblical foundation for focusing on children? Jesus loves the children; the New Testament is a house church book and those house churches were filled with families with children!
• Week 2 (May 13-19): The need to reach the children. Parents are the primary disciplers of their children and teens; Christian parents need to take this role seriously, both within the cell and outside it. Yet, so many children today have non-Christian parents who cannot bring up their children in the way of Christ. Children’s cells are a lifeline to those kids who need Jesus. Cell churches reach children in both cell and celebration.
• Week 3 (May 20-26): Inter-generational Cells and Cells for Children. All generations should build each other up. We’re talking about living as an extended family (just like the early house churches). It is about putting the singles in families, giving Godly role models like the older women with the younger women.
• Week 4: (May 27-June 02) Practical Guidelines for children in cells. We’ll talk about tips for children’s cells and what others are doing to minister to children in cell groups. We will also look at some pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Jesús ama a los niños. Cuando Cristo estuvo en la tierra, el dijo, “Dejad a los niños y no les impidáis venir a m, porque de los tales es el reino de los cielos. Y habiendo puesto sobre ellos las manos, se fue de all”(Mateo 19:14-15). Dios ama a los niños y debemos hacer lo mismo.

Sabemos que los niños son el futuro y, de hecho, no van a ser niños por mucho tiempo. Algunos incluso serán nuestros futuros lderes. Estadsticas de EE.UU. nos dicen que casi la mitad de todos los estadounidenses que aceptan a Jesucristo como su salvador, lo hacen antes de llegar a la edad de 13 años (43%). También, dos de cada tres cristianos nacidos de nuevo (64%) hicieron el compromiso a Cristo antes de llegar a 18 años (Barna, 2004). Por supuesto, este dato puede variar en diferentes partes del mundo, pero la verdad sigue igual: tenemos que ministrar a los niños y hacer que sean nuestra prioridad.

Las iglesias celulares deben dar prioridad a los niños tanto en la célula como en la celebración. Por ejemplo, animo a las células familiares que los niños permanecen en la célula de adultos para el rompihielo y el tiempo de adoración. Durante la lección de la Palabra de Dios, los niños pueden salir para recibir una lección personalizada dirigida por uno de los miembros de la célula (a veces los adultos rotan para dar la enseñanza a los niños). También funciona bien para mostrar un video cristiano durante este tiempo.

Cuando hay un grupo de niños constantes en la célula, ora que Dios provea a un adulto o adolescente para liderar la célula de los niños. Esto podra ser alguien de la célula o de la iglesia. La iglesia debe proveer material para el lder de la célula de los niños y todo el apoyo necesario.

Otra opción es llevar a cabo pequeños grupos de niños en distintos barrios de la ciudad. Estas células se parecen mucho a los estudios biblicos de la organización que se llama “Child Evangelism Fellowship” (Confraternidad para Evangelizar a los Niños). La meta de esta organización es evangelizar a los niños a través de estudios biblicos en los barrios de cada ciudad del mundo (es como una célula).

El ministerio de niños en la mañana del domingo es también de importancia vital. Muchas iglesias llaman este tiempo “Escuela Dominical para niños.” Quizá tu iglesia usa diferente nombre pero la idea es igual. Los adultos reciben enseñanza durante el culto de la celebración el domingo y los niños trambién deben recibir enseñana de la Biblia y celebrar a Cristo.

Este mes en el blog de JCG, vamos a explorar los diferentes aspectos de los niños en la iglesia celular. Experimentados pastores van a escribir 28 blogs sobre el tema de los niños en la iglesia celular en todo el mes de mayo. • Semana 2 (Mayo 13-19): La necesidad de llegar a los niños. Los padres son los discipuladores primarios de sus niños y adolescentes, y los padres cristianos deben tomar este papel en serio, tanto dentro de la célula y fuera de ella. Sin embargo, muchos niños hoy en da tienen padres no cristianos que no pueden criar a los niños en el camino de Cristo. Las iglesias celulares llegan a los niños, tanto en la célula como en la celebración.
• Semana 3 (Mayo 20-26): Células inter-generacionales y células para niños. Todas las generaciones deben participar en el ministerio para los niños. O sea, como cristianos debemos vivir como una familia extendida, tomando responsiblidad para los niños (igual como las iglesias en casas en la iglesia primitiva).
• Semana 4: (Mayo 27-junio 02) Consejo práctico para ministrar a los niños en célula y celebración. Hablaremos de consejos para las células de los niños y lo que otros están haciendo para atender a los niños en células y celebración (cultos el domingo). También miraremos de los obstáculos y cómo evitarlos.
