Whose responsibility are children? “One generation shall tell the next generation” (Psalm 145: 4). Repeatedly all Israel commanded to pass on to the children (e.g. Deut. 6:4-9; 32:6). We are all responsible! Deut. 29 29 says, “The revealed things belong to you and your children.” Parents are responsible! David’s prayer is for all of us: “Don’t let me die till I tell the next generation … your power to all who are to come.”

Where are the children? God placed the family, in the tribe (cell), and the tribes formed the nation (church). Children, in community with their families, were included e.g. 2 Chron. 20 13 “all the men of Judah with their wives, children and little ones stood before the Lord” (Ex. 16:9, Neh.12:42, Exodus 17). When the words “all, everyone, the entire community, church, Israelites etc.” are used – the children are included. Children were where Jesus was. Matthew 18: 2. New Testament church was in the home e.g. Acts 2: 46; 18: 8; 11:14 where children were automatically included.

What are some of the reasons for including children? To obey God, and model Biblical values and strategy. To be role models for children and them for us too. “Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matt 18. 2). To welcome Jesus! “Whoever welcomes one such child in my Name welcomes me” (Matt 18 4). They have a Divine right to be where Jesus is (Mark 10: 14; Matt 19 14).

The future of generations is in our hands “so the next generation would know, even the children yet to be born” (Ps 78:1:8).
The Holy Spirit reveals things to children – and we get to hear! (Matt 11 24).

What is the result?

  • A prevention of a repetition of Judges 2:10 “When this generation had returned to its fathers a generation grew up that did not know their God.”
  • “In the presence of the Lord your God you and your families shall eat and rejoice… ” Deuteronomy 12 7
  • David said “I will declare your name to all generations and therefore the nations will praise You” The nations will praise Jesus!

This is all about Jesus!

” y comeréis all delante de Jehová vuestro Dios, y os alegraréis, vosotros y vuestras familias…” Deuteronomio 12 7

  • Welcome to the blog Daphne! Great first entry, looking forward to more. This is a great theme for the near future. I have a small group in my church that is desiring to figure out how to incorporate children more (versus just putting them in another room with a TV and DVD). Thanks again!

  • Hi Daphne,
I remember reading some of your material when we were working in Germany in the ’90’s planting a Cell Church and working with other churches in the country to help establish them in the Cell Church model. I appreciate your entry today but was confused by the reference of Mt. 11:24 used when you speak of “The Holy Spirit reveals things to children – and we get to hear! (Matt 11 24)”. I’m sure it is a typo but couldn’t think of the address you are referring to.

  • Andrew: I have resources that can help – have put together a !launch package” to help. Let me know if you are interested – and do feel free to ask questions. I am available to phone if that would help too.

  • Doug: Thanks for picking that up. It should read ” Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.”
