Encounters are Dangerous

You should seriously consider the dangers involved before holding an Encounter. One of the primary goals in an Encounter is for everyone attending to experience the presence of Christ and the conviction of the Holy Spirit. The danger when carefully prayed over and when the Holy Spirit is given freedom to work is that you may not be able to control the outcome. In fact, some extraordinary things may happen even when the formal agenda is on a break.

At a recent Encounter, we had ended the first night’s formal activities. Even though there had been some things that kept one person away, the group had been very open and God was blessing our experience. As people were preparing for bed, two ladies began talking about home loans. The conversation moved into a disagreement that soon had both women heading to their rooms and preparing to leave the Encounter. My wife came to me with the news that “you better do something, we are about to lose everything.” Fortunately, neither lady could leave and we prayed for a breakthrough.

Our breakthrough came the next morning as God transformed the attitudes of two angry ladies. The Spirit humbled them both and built a friendship that is full of transparency and mutual concern. Wow! Beware, the spiritual forces of darkness will not want you to have a powerful experience like this and you are in danger of their attack.

As this particular Encounter continued, we had incredible breakthroughs for several people. Every person present sought out prayer from the entire group for personal issues. In our evaluations, people said to please be sure to have tissues for everyone who sits in the “Prayer Chair.”

We are encountering Christ at our Encounters and it is making a difference in our church. This is pretty special since we are a small established church that has had significant barriers to being outreach focused. God is changing us and He is using the Encounters to intensify the process. That too could be dangerous if you don’t want your church to change.
