Have you ever encouraged someone with real potential to become a leader and they refused to take the necessary next steps, declaring, “No, I’m not ready to be a leader.” Then, in response you tried to encourage them and instill confidence in them to no avail?

What I have learned is that frequently a lack of personal confidence is not what is behind statements like, “I’m not ready to be a leader.” Often, behind people’s hesitancy are thoughts like, “You have no idea where I am at spiritually. I have serious anger (or pornography or addiction, etc.) issues in my life. I’m not ready to be a leader.” Giving someone like this a pep talk on their gifts and abilities is not going to address the underlying objections that holding them back. What they need is to experience God’s freedom in a deep way.

Our church has been doing Encounter retreats for 12 years. The people going through them probably think that we offer them to help them get healed and set free from all the gunk in their lives. While the retreat accomplish precisely that, I see it a little differently. There’s another reason I want to see as many people as possible go to an Encounter retreat.

In my mind we offer Encounter retreats because we want to accelerate people’s spiritual growth and help them move into leadership and all God has for them. The Bible has a term for all the hangups and bondages that keep us from the fullness of life God offers them. It calls them “strongholds.” (2 Corinthians 10:4)

In my experience strongholds come from five areas:

* Occult involvement

* Habitual sin

* Hurts and unforgiveness

* Traumatic life experiences

* Generational bondage

When people bring the truth of God’s word and the blood of Christ in touch with these areas in their lives, they experience wonderful and dramatic freedom.

The theme verse for our Encounter retreat is John 10:10 where Jesus says: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Our goal is to take back what Satan has stolen and help people receive all that Jesus already died for them to experience. There is no further price for them to pay. Jesus already paid it all. Now they just need to apply that to every part of their lives.

Do you want to accelerate people’s spiritual growth and remove the obstacles that hold them back from God’s plans for their lives? Then offer Encounters and make them an integral part of your discipleship track.

* Oculta participación

* Pecado Habitual

* Daños y falta de perdón

* Vivencias traumáticas

* Esclavitud generacional
