Save the world in 3 years. That is a mind-boggling task, but that was Jesus’ mission. And He did it. It’s worth noting how: to change the world he focused on a few.
Yes, He died on the cross and rose again, but he also made sure people would hear that Good News by preparing a group of people who would be ready to take it to the ends of the earth.
Most pastors I know have a large vision: they want to see their community impacted by the Gospel. They want to make a difference in places far from their church, too. They want to “go into all the world and make disciples”. But they often spend their energies in misguided direction: they aim for the big splash.
On the surface that seems to make sense, but in the long run it has little carrying power.
Notice how Jesus accomplished his mission. He didn’t try to get in front of big crowds, gather resources, or meet political influencers. To save the world, he focused on a few.
He didn’t rent stadiums, he met in houses.
The closer he got to the cross, the more he focused His attention on the 12, meeting in houses like Peter’s mother-in-law’s home, Mary and Martha’s at Bethany, and of course the Upper Room. It seems counter-intuitive, but that move prepared his followers for the rigors of ministry they would face.
Jesus spent a significant part of His ministry with a few people in homes. As pastors who follow Jesus, it makes sense for us to do the same.
I recently asked a pastor “If you had an extra 8 hours given you each week, what would you do with it?” He didn’t know. I suggest that a great place to start is where Jesus was: spend time training disciples in the warm atmosphere of a home.

La prioridad de Jesús

Salva el mundo en 3 años. Esa es una tarea inconcebible, pero esa fue la misión de Jesús. Y Él lo hizo. Vale la pena señalar cómo: para cambiar el mundo Él se concentró en unos pocos. S, Él murió en la cruz y resucitó, pero también se aseguro que la gente oyera las Buenas Nuevas mediante la preparación de un grupo de personas que estaran dispuestas a llevarlo hasta los confines de la tierra.
La mayora de los pastores que conozco tienen una visión amplia: quieren ver a su comunidad impactada por el Evangelio. Ellos quieren hacer la diferencia en lugares alejados de su iglesia. Ellos quieren “ir por todo el mundo y hacer discpulos”. Pero a menudo gastan sus energas en la dirección equivocada: su objetivo es ir a lo grande. En la superficie parece tener sentido, pero en el largo plazo tiene poco poder.
Observe cómo Jesús cumplió su misión. No trató de ponerse en frente de una gran multitud, de recolectar recursos, o cumplir con los influyentes polticos. Para salvar al mundo, se concentró en unos pocos. Él No alquilo estadios, Él se reunió en las casas.
Cuanto más se acercaba a la cruz, más centraba su atención en los 12, reunidos en casas como la de la suegra de Pedro, Mara y Marta en Betania, y por supuesto el aposento alto. Esto parece contrario a la intuición, pero ese movimiento preparó a sus seguidores en los rigores del ministerio que se enfrentan.
Jesús pasó gran parte de su ministerio con algunas personas en los hogares. Como pastores que siguen a Jesús, tiene sentido para nosotros hacer lo mismo.
Recientemente le pregunté a un pastor “Si usted tuviera 8 horas extras, ¿Que haras con ellas cada semana?, Él no lo saba. Sugiero un gran lugar para comenzar es donde Jesús fue: a pasar tiempo con sus discpulos en formación en el cálido ambiente de un hogar.

Exelente ensenansa por que la malloria de nosotros nos intesa instruir mas a los muchos y descuidamos a los pocos
I agree! Like Jesus, we need to have grass-roots activities as spiritual leaders that move the vision forward as well. Usually this looks like individual ministry in intimate settings. The big picture items are important too. Shouldn’t be one or the other, should be both. Nice article!
