At Elim we have two types of house meetings: permanent and rotating. The reality is that almost all our cells are the permanent type. That is, the cells meet at one host house in a particular neighborhood. Normally, the cells remain for years in that same house. These cells become permanent fixtures in the neighborhood where they are located. People in the area know the place, day, and time when the cells meet.
We see this as a great advantage because people begin to see the cells as a place where they can find help in prayer, comfort, guidance and support. In other words, the cell becomes a church where people find God. The cell is linked to the life of the community, and people see it as a normal channel of God’s grace. In fact, the neighbors often believe that cell meetings are something that all evangelical churches have, although we know this is not the case.
Our rotating cells only remain in one place for two to three weeks in one home and then move on to another home. Why do some cells rotate? The most common reason is to reach non-Christians who might be interested in coming to a new host home. We don’t reject those new hosts who want to open their homes to invite their unbelieving friends and neighbors. Yet, we make it clear that the cell will only rotate for a limited time, since we believe it’s essential to have a permanent Christian host. Normally, the new people are reached within a few weeks and then the rotating cell becomes a permanent one (this is the reason why almost all our cells are the permanent type).

De Célula Rotativa a Permanente

En Elim tenemos dos tipos de reuniones en casas: las reuniones permanentes y las rotativas. Casi la totalidad de reuniones son de carácter permanente. Esto significa que las células se establecen con un carácter indefinido en la casa de su respectivo anfitrión. Normalmente, las células permanecen por varios años en la misma casa. Lo común es que las células se llegan a convertir en referentes de los vecindarios donde se encuentran. Las personas saben el lugar, el da y la hora en que se desarrollan las células.
Eso es una ventaja porque las personas suelen ver las células como un lugar de ayuda en donde pueden encontrar oración, consuelo, orientación y apoyo. En otras palabras, un lugar donde encontrar a Dios. La célula se encuentra enlazada a la vida de la comunidad y las personas la ven como algo natural, propio de las iglesias evangélicas.
Por el contrario, las células rotativas son aquellas que permanecen dos o tres semanas en un hogar para luego rotar hacia otro. ¿Por qué se hacen rotar las células? La razón más común es que hay personas no creyentes que se relacionan con el trabajo celular al punto de ofrecer sus hogares para que se realice la reunión de célula. Por no rechazar su ofrecimiento, se coloca la célula de manera rotativa. La idea es que la célula solamente estará por un tiempo en esa casa dado que es una condición interna de la iglesia que el anfitrión sea un cristiano. Normalmente, lo que ocurre es que en esas dos o tres semanas la persona termina por creer. La célula que inicialmente era rotativa se convierte as en una nueva célula permanente. Y esa es la razón por la que casi todas nuestras células son permanentes.
