We know that the New Testament church met in houses. The training of believers and their growth in faith occurred in the intimacy of the home environment. Those small gatherings in the houses were the place where Christians ate together, celebrated the Lord’s Supper, remembered the doctrine of the apostles, exhorted each other, practiced the gifts of the Spirit, and reflected on their faith.
Those early house meetings are what we now call cell groups. This is the best atmosphere to make disciples, since it’s the one which Jesus chose. The cell is the breeding ground where mentoring takes place in a practical way and Christian teaching is transmitted. The cell is where the members learn while doing and living out the gospel message.
At Elim, even though we’ve always maintained a strong evangelistic emphasis, we also make disciples in this atmosphere. There is a lot of growth, prayer, doctrine and community while leading others to Jesus. The cell is on the frontline of the church entering into the world of darkness. It is in this frontline where the brave and the heroes are forged, and where the guidance of the Holy Spirit is exerted to conquer others in Jesus name.
The cell is the basis from which new leaders and coaches originate, and from the coaches the workers and the church pastors also emerge. And this growth happens as every member matures together.

La Célula como Base del Discipulado

No hay duda que la iglesia del Nuevo Testamento se reuna en las casas. La formación de los cristianos y su crecimiento en la fe se produca en ese ámbito. Esas pequeñas reuniones en las casas era el lugar donde los cristianos coman juntos, celebraban la cena del Señor, recordaban la doctrina de los apóstoles, se exhortaban mutuamente, ejercan los dones del Espritu y reflexionaban sobre su fe.
Esas reuniones en las casas es lo que modernamente llamamos células. Consecuentemente, la tarea de hacer discpulos de Jesús encuentra un alto porcentaje en este lugar. La célula es el caldo de cultivo donde se transmite de manera práctica, por medio del mentoreo, la formación cristiana. La célula es donde se aprende haciendo. Y se aprende viviendo.
En el caso de Elim, aun cuando las células tienen un fuerte énfasis evangelizador, no se puede negar el amplio papel que las células poseen en la tarea de formar discpulos de Cristo. En el trabajo de llevar a otros a Jesús existe mucho crecimiento, oración, doctrina y crecimiento personal. La célula es la primera lnea de batalla de la iglesia penetrando el mundo de tinieblas. Es en esa primera lnea que se forjan los valientes, los héroes y donde se ejerce la gua del Espritu Santo para conquistar otras personas para la causa de Cristo.
La célula es la base de la cual se originan nuevos lderes, surgen los supervisores y de los supervisores surgen los obreros y pastores de la iglesia. Es un crecimiento que nace desde abajo y que lleva el sello de la experiencia diaria. Esa experiencia que no puede ser sustituida por otro componente y que al mismo tiempo envuelve la vida diaria de los cristianos. No es ir a un lugar especial, no es un tiempo que se dedica a ello, es la vida cotidiana y contnua de los creyentes.
