Multiplying Long-Term Cells

Dr. Ralph Neighbour has recently written a book entitled, Christ’s Basic Bodies. The title and contents of the book underline what the cell group really is: a basic part of the body of Christ. Churches only need two or three to meet in the name of Christ to be called churches (Matt.18:20). Cell groups should develop all the characteristics and spiritual functions of a church, principally the use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to help the body of Christ to grow. When a cell group is not treated as a church, it’s growth is strangled. It’s also a lack of insight of the body of Christ to not see the cell as the church of Jesus Christ (1Cor. 10:16 ;11:29).

Dr. Manuel Diaz, a respected Spanish theologian a few years ago told me about the Apostle Paul’s impact on Tarragona, Spain .He told me that church in Spain practiced what they called a “mozarabe” service. The mozarabe service, was more like a cell or house group than a church celebration. And this form of service gradually disappeared in Spain, with the introduction of the Roman service, which is the one we’ve inherited in the Spanish protestant churches (and around the entire world). Perhaps this is the reason why some pastors resist the idea of house churches and only practice the larger celebration services. In reality, both are needed in the body of Christ.

The duration and health of the cell group depends on how we see it. If we consider it a “means to the end” (a way to grow our church), rather than the church itself, we will prioritize the cell less. In the cell church movement, we respect the cell (house church) at the same level as we do the celebration service (the coming together of those house churches). Sadly, those who are not cell churches see the cell group as just another program—just a means to an end. When a cell doesn’t grow in the cell church, the leadership tries to nurture and nourish the cell because it’s the basic body of Christ. But in a non-cell church, if the cell doesn’t grow, it’s closed down, just like a program.

Because the cell is the church, we must give it the same consideration that we give the celebration.

El Dr. Ralp Neighbour ha escrito recientemente un libro que ha titulado “los cuerpos básicos de Cristo”, resaltando con ese ttulo y con el contenido del libro, lo que realmente es una célula, una parte básica del cuerpo de Cristo. Las Iglesias para ser Iglesias sólo necesitan que dos o tres se reúnan en el nombre de Cristo (Mat. 18:20), eso quiere decir, que una célula debe desarrollar todas las caractersticas y funciones espirituales de una Iglesia, principalmente la manifestación de los dones, que son las herramientas que edifican y hacen crecer el cuerpo de Cristo.

Cuando no se trata una célula como una iglesia, se estrangula el crecimiento. Por otro lado, es una falta de discernimiento del Cuerpo de Cristo no ver la Iglesia en cada célula (1Cor. 10:16; 11:29).

El Dr. Manuel Daz, un respetado Teólogo Español, me comparta hace unos das, acerca de la estada del Apóstol Pablo en Tarragona, España. El me deca que el tipo de culto que la Iglesia practicaba en ese entonces, era el “mozárabe”. (Aunque el termino les suene musulmán, los mozárabes no eran musulmanes, de hecho los mozárabes que se convertan al islam pasaban a llamarse “mulades”). El culto mozárabe, era más parecido al culto de una célula que al de una celebración. Y esa forma de culto fue desapareciendo en España, con al introducción del culto romano, que es el que hemos heredado las Iglesia protestantes españolas y creo que las de todo el mundo. Quizás por eso algunos pastores sienten que una célula es diferente a una celebración, cuando en realidad se trata de lo mismo, una parte del cuerpo de Cristo.

La durabilidad y la salud de la célula depende precisamente de cómo se considere la célula. Por ejemplo, si la célula se la considera un medio para la iglesia y no una iglesia en s misma, pues el nivel de trabajo y respeto hacia la célula se reduce. La Iglesia celular tiene la misma consideración hacia la célula que hacia la celebración, pero las iglesias que no son celulares, sino que tienen células, consideran las células al mismo nivel que cualquier otro programa de la Iglesia. Cuando en una Iglesia celular una célula no crece, se trabaja en esa célula, pero cuando eso sucede en una iglesia no celular, se cierra la célula o el programa celular.

Es muy importante ver la célula como se ve la celebración, como Iglesia.
