[I, Joel Comiskey, am honored to present pastor Freddy Noble, lead pastor of the First Baptist Spanish Church in Manhattan: (www.iglesiabautistanyc.org) I’ve had the privilege of visiting this church a couple times and coaching pastor Freddy for several years. Freddy’s church is a vibrant, exemplary cell church multiplying cell groups all over Manhattan, New York. Freddy leads his own cell group, exemplifying what he wants others to follow. Shirley Reynoso is a 21 year old lady who leads a youth cell group in our church. When she started working in the cell group, none of the members were believers. To this day, 6 members have been baptized due to her work.
Gloria Alvarez is an enthusiastic woman who leads a cell group in her home. She tends to witness wherever she goes. In one occasion, she realized some of her coworkers were having personal issues and Gloria took that opportunity to share the Word with them. Today she leads a cell group in her work place.
Ivonne Nunez started meeting with some of her girl friends in a fast food restaurant. In a short time, one of the participants suggested they meet with other friends. From that suggestion, a cell group emerged; which then grew and duplicated. One of the members of this cell group got saved and now leads one of these cell groups.
These are only a few examples of what happens in our church today. As a Baptist church, we have always believed in the priesthood of the believers but to tell you the truth, we did not know how to implement it.
When the church would celebrate its annual meetings to pick its new officials, Sunday school teachers, and other committees, I always wondered what to do with the rest of the church that was not serving in any other capacity.
To this day, our church is based on cell groups, not on programs. One of the most important results of this has been more participation of the believers in ministry. Today the members of these cell groups, not only get together to praise and pray for one another, but also to witness and reach their nonbeliever friends.
Our church does not have to depend in a special evangelist once a year to motivate our members to reach lost souls. This work is now done by the members of the church through the cell groups. Therefore I can say that in our experience we can declare what is written in the Word: “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.†Hebrew 5: 42.

El Sacerdocio de los Creyentes y La Iglesia Celular.

Sherley Reynoso es una joven de 21 años que dirige una célula de jóvenes en nuestra iglesia. Cuando ella empezó a trabajar ninguna de las jóvenes que asistan a la misma conoca al Señor. Hoy, se han bautizado seis de las participantes como resultado del trabajo de ella.
Gloria Ãlvarez, es una entusiasta mujer que dirige un grupo en su hogar. Suele testificar donde quiera. En una ocasión detectó unas necesidades en algunas de sus compañeras de trabajo y empezó a hablarles de la palabra. Hoy dirige un grupo en su trabajo.
Ivonne, empezó a reunirse con algunas muchachas en un restaurant de comida rápida. Al poco tiempo, una de las participantes sugirió que se reunieran con algunas amigas. De ah surgió una célula, que a su vez se reprodujo. Y como resultado, Giselle, que se convirtió all, hoy dirige una de estas.
Estos son solo unos pocos ejemplos de lo que sucede hoy en nuestra iglesia. Como una iglesia bautista nosotros siempre hemos credo en el sacerdocio de los creyentes pero a decir verdad en la práctica no sabamos como implementarlo.
Cuando la iglesia celebraba sus reuniones anuales para elegir nuevos oficiales y se escogan maestros de la Escuela Dominical, y varios comités que eran ocupados por algunos creyentes siempre me quedaba la interrogante de quá hacer con el resto de la iglesia.
En el da de hoy nuestra iglesia está basada, no en programas sino en células. Uno de los frutos más importantes ha sido una mayor participación de los creyentes en las tareas del ministerio. Hoy los miembros de las células y sus equipos, no solo se reúnen para adorar y orar unos por otros, sino que procuran alcanzar a sus amigos con el evangelio.
Nuestra iglesia no tiene hoy que depender de un especialista una vez al año para evangelizar. Esa labor la realizan los miembros de la iglesia a través de las células. De manera que puedo decir que en nuestra experiencia también se cumple la declaración bblica; ‘y todos los das , en el templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar a Jesucristoâ€. (Hechos 5:42)
