“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:26-27 NIV)
I enjoy worship. In fact, one of the reasons I encouraged men to attend the Promise Keeper events was because of the incredible privilege of worshipping with several thousand men, singing, praying, humbling ourselves, shouting and repenting before God. That kind of worship is incredible, and it is a taste of the celebrations that we will enjoy in Heaven. However, in those gatherings where we worshipped with one voice, I did not know the hurts and joys of the men even within a few feet of me.
As I prepared for this blog, I reread I Corinthians 12 to remind myself of the gifts of the Spirit and the way that we are to use them in the Body of Christ. I would encourage you to do the same. Just look at the two verses quoted above. This is just a paragraph before Paul’s statement on love, “the most excellent way.â€
Large worship gatherings are great for enthusiastic worship. They lack in the ability to suffer or rejoice with individual parts. Even small churches lack this kind of personal caring and intimacy. As I look at some of the small churches I have been part of, there was a false sense of intimacy. People thought they knew one another, but did they really? You might be surprised to realize that they will not know everyone’s name let alone the joys and challenges they are facing.
When I sit down in our Life Group each week, I can see things in the eyes of the people in my group. Members in the group can see when someone is exhausted from their week; in pain as their body attempts to heal from some injury, or when tears are about to burst because of some inner pain. As this occurs, the people in the group begin to reach out to one another. One prays for healing; another offers a word of encouragement from the Lord; someone else gives a silent hug; with an anointing of faith another speaks God’s truth or silently blesses a neighbor and together we are encouraged to share Christ with that person who seems impossible but we know matters to God.
I hear Joshua saying, “As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD†(Joshua 24:15). As for me and my household, my cell, my life group, my small group, and my church, we will use the gifts of the Spirit to serve the Lord, one another and our community. God has given every believer one or more spiritual gifts. Nearly all of them can be used in a cell. Just look at the list in I Corinthians 12: Wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophesy, distinguishing between spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Interpret them according to your tradition and there is no place where each person can use their gifts to serve one another like in the cell. Even misuses of the Spirit can be dealt with in love by the cell.
Look at I Corinthians 12-14, Romans 12, Ephesians 4 and I Peter 4 and examine where the gifts of the Spirit are being freely used in your ministry. God wants every believer to serve Him. The Holy Spirit wants to fill us to overflowing. I for one do not want to limit the ministry of the Body of Christ to what people can do in a worship celebration. When that happens, it is no wonder people fall into a kind of elite status of the people who are ministering “up front.â€

Somos el Cuerpo de Cristo

Disfruto de la alabanza. De hecho, una de las razones por las que alentaba a los hombres a asistir a los eventos Manteniendo una Promesa fue por el increble privilegio de adorar con miles de hombres, cantando, orando, humillándonos, gritando y arrepintiéndonos ante Dios. Ese tipo de adoración es increble, y es una muestra de las celebraciones que disfrutaremos en el Cielo. Sin embargo, en esos encuentros en los que adoraban a una voz, yo no sé los dolores y las alegras de los hombres, incluso a unos pocos metros de m.
Mientras me preparaba para este blog, volv a leer I Corintios 12 para recordarme a m mismo de los dones del Espritu y la forma en que vamos a utilizarlos en el Cuerpo de Cristo. Te animo a hacer lo mismo. Solo mira los dos versculos citados anteriormente. Esto es sólo un párrafo antes de la declaración de Pablo sobre el amor, “el camino más excelente.”
Las grandes reuniones de adoración son excelentes para el entusiasmo. Fallan en la capacidad de sufrir o regocijarse con partes individuales. Incluso las pequeñas iglesias carecen de este tipo de cuidado personal e intimidad. Al mirar algunas de las pequeñas iglesias que he sido parte, hubo una falsa sensación de intimidad. La gente pensaba que se conocan los unos a los otros, pero ¿S se conocan realmente? Usted se puede sorprender al darse cuenta de que no conocan el nombre de todos por no hablar de las alegras y de los retos que se enfrentan.
Cuando me siento en nuestro grupo celular cada semana, puedo ver las cosas en los ojos de la gente de mi grupo. Los miembros del grupo pueden ver cuando alguien está agotado en la semana, el dolor cuando su cuerpo trata de curarse de alguna lesión, o cuando las lágrimas están a punto de reventar por algún dolor interno. Mientras esto ocurre, las personas del grupo comienzan a acercarse el uno al otro. Uno ora por sanidad, otro ofrece una palabra de aliento de parte del Señor, alguien da un abrazo en silencio, con la unción de la fe, otro habla la verdad de Dios y bendice en silencio un vecino y juntos se nos anima a compartir a Cristo con esa persona que parece imposible pero sabemos que le importa a Dios.
Oigo a Josué diciendo: ” pero yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová” (Josué 24:15). En cuanto a m y, a mi casa, mi célula, mi grupo de vida, mi pequeño grupo, y mi iglesia, vamos a utilizar los dones del Espritu para servir al Señor, entre s y con nuestra comunidad. Dios le ha dado a cada creyente uno o más dones espirituales. Casi todos pueden ser usados en una célula. Basta con mirar la lista en I Corintios 12: sabidura, conocimiento, fe, sanidad, poderes milagrosos, profeca, discernimiento de espritus, lenguas e interpretación de lenguas. Interpretar de acuerdo a su tradición y no hay lugar donde cada persona puede utilizar sus dones para servir a los demás como en la célula. Incluso los malos usos del Espritu pueden ser tratados en el amor en la célula.
Mira I Corintios 12-14, Romanos 12, Efesios 4 y I Pedro 4 y examina donde los dones del Espritu están siendo utilizados libremente en su ministerio. Dios quiere que cada creyente le sirva. El Espritu Santo nos quiere llenar a rebosar. Por mi parte, no quiero limitar el ministerio del Cuerpo de Cristo a lo que la gente puede hacer en una celebración de adoración. Cuando esto sucede, no es de extrañar que la gente caiga en una especie de estado de élite de las personas que están ministrando “en el frente.”
