Cell Church Motivations

For many, the primary motivation to start working with cells is church growth. But it’s a myth to say that when a church becomes a cell church it will automatically turn into a mega church. This is simply not true. The reality is that most cell churches in the world are not mega churches. For example, some might define “mega church” as a local church that has surpassed 10,000 members is adopted (as in the case of Elim Mission, which has been working with cells for 29 years). If in the definition of “mega church” the criterion that it is a local congregation that has surpassed 10,000 members is adopted; in the case of Elim Mission, which has been working with cells for 29 years, there are only two mega churches This would then mean that the cell work has failed, because his strategy doesn’t produce mega church growth.

The reality is that the primary motivation to become a cell church is to return to the New Testament strategy for ministry, which promotes the priesthood of all believers. The cell church is all about practicing fellowship with each other, mutual edification, and house to house evangelism. These elements are the essence of the Christian life. It is better to have a church where its members live in the fullness of Christian life–even if it is not huge, rather than having a large one where the members are just spectators.

    Hi Pastor Mario,

I admire you and your ministry very much!
I sure hope to get to meet you personally someday!

    I have a question:
I didn’t understand what you said in your article about only two cell churches in the world that have over 10,000 members. Please explain…

I personally know of many cell churches in Brazil and other places of the world that have over 10,000 members.

I believe I didn’t understand what you are saying.

    Many Blessings!

    • Dear Abe:

Thank you for your comment. You are right.

What happened is a mistake in the translation of my words into English and, consequently, into Portuguese.

What I wrote originally is the following:

“If in the definition of “mega church” the criterion that it is a local congregation that has surpassed 10,000 members is adopted; in the case of Elim Mission, which has been working with cells for 29 years, there are only two mega churches.”

You can see I am talking about Elim Mission, not about the world. Is in this sense that was written in Spanish. It is a problem with the translations.
