Let’s imagine that your pastor preached on the life of Jonah last week. In your group this week, you could spend most of your evening discussing all sorts of cool background stuff: The thought that it was a “great fish” and not a whale; the possibility that the great fish’s stomach acids bleached Jonah’s skin (hence the “ghost” reference from the people of Nineveh who were the darkest skinned people on the planet); the superstitions of the crewmembers on the ship; why he was fleeing to Tarshish in particular; and on and on it could go… It’s a fascinating Bible story, even for adults! The problem is that remaining buried in the background of the story with a historical mindset would rob your group members of powerful application. You must train yourself to think differently about scripture as it pertains to cell agenda design. It’s all about taking scripture and applying it to your lives.

A better way to approach the life of Jonah would be to ask a series of questions that move your group members from the historical text to transparent sharing to a time of ministry and then into evangelism:

1. “Now that we’ve reviewed the story of Jonah, is anyone willing to briefly share a time when they ran from God in some area of life? What were you running from? What got you back on God’s track? What did you learn from it?” [After you ask this question, stop talking! Let people think about what they want to share. Use the “dead air” to ask the Holy Spirit to do a deep work tonight. Thank each person for sharing… 2-3 people sharing is enough; the goal is to help other members identify with those who shared so they are willing to be vulnerable for the next question.]
2. “For those who just shared, have you ever thought that God protects AND corrects us at the same time? Jonah would have drowned if not swallowed by the great fish. When God arrested your rebellious behavior, in what ways did he also protect you or others?”
   
3. “Is anyone struggling with something you know God wants you to do? If you are willing to share, we stand ready to support you, no matter how difficult it may be!” [Once again, wait for members to share and don’t be afraid of the “dead air” in the room… This is when people hear the Holy Spirit clearly. Don’t fill the soundless gap by repeating the question.]
   
4. “To complete our evening’s application, I want everyone to think about a friend or family member who is running from God. Silently pray that this person would be arrested in their thinking or actions; assure God that you will not judge them; that you will be supportive during the process; and ask God to give you an idea of what they’ll be doing and feeling when they are walking in God’s obedience.” [Give everyone time to pray silently for their person, and urge them NOT to share the name of the person aloud. Some might call this gossip and they’d be right!]
5. “This week, I’d like to challenge everyone here to share the story of Jonah with someone who doesn’t know Christ as Lord. Ask them if they’ve ever heard the story of Jonah. If they say they know it, ask them to tell you the story and then what it shows about God’s character. If they’ve not heard the story, ask them if you can briefly share it with them. Why? It’s a wild story worth telling! When you’re done, tell them how your life was similar to Jonah’s and ask them if they’ve ever had a Jonah experience.”

Some group leaders find creating application questions easy and others find it nearly impossible. Work together with other group leaders in your church and visit with your pastor if you’re having difficulty with cell agendas. Also, bathe your preparation in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to give you ideas, and as always, don’t wait until the day of your group to prepare. Start praying and thinking early and give God time to speak to you when you’re not stressed. Godspeed!

Desarrollando una agenda de preguntas: Aplicando la Palabra

Imaginemos que tu pastor predicó sobre la vida de Jonás la semana pasada. En tu grupo esta semana, tu podras pasar la mayor parte de la noche discutiendo todo tipo de cosas interesantes: la idea de que se trataba de un “gran pez” y no una ballena, la posibilidad de que los ácidos del estómago del gran pez quemaran la piel de Jonás (de ah la referencia “fantasma” de la gente de Nnive, que eran las personas de piel más oscura en todo el planeta); las supersticiones de los miembros de la tripulación del buque, por qué estaba huyendo a Tarsis en particular, y podras seguir y seguir… Es una fascinante historia de la Biblia, incluso para los adultos. El problema es que queda enterrado el fondo de la historia con una mentalidad histórica y robara a los miembros del grupo las aplicaciones de gran alcance. Te entrenas a ti mismo a pensar diferente acerca de las Escrituras en lo que respecta al diseño del programa celular. Todo es para tomar las Escrituras y aplicarlas a sus vidas.

Una mejor manera de acercarse a la vida de Jonás sera preguntar una serie de preguntas que mueva  los miembros del grupo del texto histórico a compartir el tiempo transparente del ministerio y luego en el evangelismo:

1. ” Ahora que hemos revisado la historia de Jonás, ¿Hay alguien dispuesto a compartir brevemente un momento de tu vida cuando huas de Dios? ¿Por qué estabas huyendo? ¿Qué te hizo regresar con Dios? ¿Qué aprendiste?” [Después de hacer esta pregunta, deja de hablar, Deja que la gente piensa acerca de lo que quieren compartir. Utilice la opción del “aire muerto” para pedir al Espritu Santo que haga un trabajo profundo en esta noche. Agradezca a cada persona para compartir… 2-3 personas compartiendo es suficiente; El objetivo es ayudar a los otros miembros a que se identifiquen con los que estuvieron dispuestos a compartir, para que estén más vulnerables para la siguiente pregunta]

2. “Para aquellos que acabaron de compartir, ¿Alguna vez has pensado que Dios nos protege y nos corrige al mismo tiempo? Jonás se habra ahogado si el gran pez no se lo hubiera tragado. Cuando Dios detuvo tu comportamiento rebelde, ¿De qué manera él te protegió a ti y a los demás? “

3. “¿Hay alguien luchando con algo que Dios quiere que hagas? Si usted está dispuesto a compartir, estamos dispuestos a apoyarte, no importa lo difcil que puede ser ” [Una vez más, espera que los miembros compartan y no tenga miedo del ” aire muerto ” en la sala… Esto es cuando la gente oye al Espritu Santo con claridad. No llene el vaco silencioso, repitiendo la misma pregunta.]

4. “Para completar la solicitud de esta noche, quiero que todos piensen en un amigo o miembro de la familia que este huyendo de Dios. En silencio, oren para que esta persona sea detenido en su pensamiento o acciones; asegúrale a Dios que no los juzgaras, que serás de apoyo durante el proceso, y pdele a Dios que te dé una idea de lo que van a hacer y sentir cuando estén caminando en obediencia con Dios”. [Da a todos tiempo para orar en silencio por esa persona, e insista que no compartan el nombre de la persona en voz alta. Algunos podran llamar a esto chisme y estaramos en lo cierto]

5. “Esta semana, me gustara desafiar a todos a compartir la historia de Jonás con alguien que no conoce a Cristo como Señor y Salvador. Pregúnteles si alguna vez han escuchado la historia de Jonás. Si ellos dicen que la saben, pdeles que te cuenten la historia y lo que se muestra sobre el carácter de Dios. Si no han escuchado la historia, pregunte si usted puede compartirla brevemente con ellos. ¿Por qué? Es una historia que merece ser contada salvaje. Cuando hayas terminado, dgales cómo tu vida fue similar a la de Jonás y preguntarles si alguna vez han tenido una experiencia como la de Jonás”.

Algunos lderes encuentran el crear preguntas de aplicación fácil y para otros es casi imposible. Trabaja en conjunto con otros lderes de tu iglesia y visita con tu pastor si usted está teniendo dificultad con tu agenda. Además, nutre tu preparación en oración y pide al Espritu Santo que te de ideas, y como siempre, no espere hasta el da de la reunión para prepararte. Comience a orar y a pensar desde antes y dale tiempo a Dios para que hable a tu vida cuando no estés estresado. ¡Buena Suerte!

[Pre-blog note from the author to pastors reading this post: I personally do not feel that cell leaders should be burdened with developing cell agendas/lessons. Part of the support system you should offer them should include a simple, one page agenda that’s easy to follow and easy to give to a member of the group so others can facilitate the meeting. Their role is relational by nature, and preparing a cell lesson on their own each week will emotionally drain them and keep them from being as effective a leader as they could and should be for your church.]

If you’re a leader and you’re in charge of preparing a lesson each week for your group, here’s some tips I have used through the years that work very well:

Buy a Serendipity Bible as soon as possible. It contains icebreakers, questions to dig into passage to understand it, and personal application for each section of the Bible. I don’t use all the questions in the “dig” area because it’s too much Bible study for a cell group meeting, but it’s solid content for a lesson you can take and adapt for your group! … and it’s a lifesaver when you’re stumped or pressed for time.

Prepare the lesson at least 2 days in advance and let the content soak into your spirit. Ask God to give you insight as to what your group members need to learn, experience, talk about, and do with the Bible passage you are sharing. Then remain flexible to modify it.

When you prepare, employ the K.I.S.S. principle. “Keep It Simple for the Saints!” One or two verses of scripture; one question asking what the passage means; one or two questions asking how it applies to your lives today and how it might contrast the member’s lived-out values (versus their ideals, which isn’t what we do, but what we think we do); and finish with a probing question that leads the members into a desire to share transparently and minister to one another.

At least once a month, purposely do not leave enough time for lots of ministry during the meeting. Ask the group who would like prayer, then who would be willing to pray for them this week, and then ask them to discuss when and where they can do that in the days to follow. [I know this sounds crazy, but you need to challenge members to minister to one another outside the meeting if it’s not happening naturally in your group as of today.]

On a semi-annual basis, I surprise my group with a special “cell group agenda” they didn’t see coming, but they talk about for years afterward. What could have this much impact? An “impromptu” game night and pizza! I wait until everyone is having a rather stressful week at work and I know they’ll be dragging themselves to the group meeting. I ask the worship leader to sing one song to open the meeting, and then I stand up and throw 5 dollars on the coffee table. I then say, “Am I hearing the Holy Spirit right? I just thought I heard Him say that others should chip in, order a pizza and take the evening to have some fun together.” Of course, if someone needs ministry we slip into a side room and pray for them after we eat…

“Preparing the lesson” is as much about preparing your heart and loving people with your time between meetings as it is creating a list of questions for your group to answer. Never lose sight of the fact that Jesus invested a vast majority of his time hanging out with the disciples, not preaching!

Prepara la Lección

[Nota del blog de parte del autor para los pastores que leen este blog: Yo personalmente no creo que los lderes celulares deben ser cargados con el desarrollo de agendas/lecciones. Parte del sistema de apoyo que se les debe ofrecer, debe de incluir un programa simple, una agenda de una página que sea fácil de seguir y fácil de dar a un miembro del grupo para que otros puedan facilitar la reunión. Su papel es relacional por naturaleza, y preparar una lección celular propia cada semana emocionalmente los desgastara y lo alejara de ser eficaz como lder en lo que podran y deberan de ser para su iglesia]

Si usted es el lder y estás a cargo de preparar la lección cada semana para tu grupo, aqu hay algunos consejos que he utilizado a través de los años que funcionan muy bien:

Compra una Biblia Serendipity tan pronto te sea posible. Contiene rompehielos, preguntas para profundizar los pasajes y como entenderlos, y la aplicación personal para cada sección de la Biblia. Yo no uso todas las preguntas en la zona de “cavar” porque es mucho estudio para la reunión celular, pero es contenido sólido para una lección y se puede tomar, adaptar para tu grupo. Y es un salvavidas cuando no tienes ni idea o estas presionado por el tiempo.

Prepare la lección por lo menos 2 das antes y deja que el contenido penetre en tu espritu. Pdale a Dios que te dé una idea de lo que los miembros del grupo tienen que aprender, experimentar, hablar, y hacer con el pasaje Bblico que está compartiendo. Luego se flexible para modificarlo.

Cuando lo prepares, emplea el principio K.I.S.S. “Mantenlos simple para los santos” Uno o dos versculos de las Escrituras, una pregunta sobre lo que significa el pasaje, uno o dos preguntas preguntando el cómo se aplica a sus vidas hoy en da y cómo se podra contrastar los valores del miembro que no tiene valores (comparando su ideales, que no es lo que nosotros hacemos, sino lo que pensamos nosotros), y terminar con una pregunta que lleve a los miembros a un deseo de compartir de forma transparente y ministrar los unos a otros.

Al menos una vez al mes, a propósito no dejar suficiente tiempo para mucho ministerio durante la reunión. Pregunte al grupo quien quisiera una oración, entonces, ¿Quién estara dispuesto a orar por ellos esta semana?, y luego pdales que discutan ¿Cuándo y dónde pueden hacerlo en los das que siguen? [Sé que parece una locura, pero tú necesitas miembros que ministren a otros fuera de la reunión si no está sucediendo de forma natural en tu grupo a partir de hoy]

En una base semestral, sorprend a mi grupo con una especial “agenda de grupos celulares” no se lo esperaban, pero hablaron por años después de eso. ¿Qué tuvo tanta repercusión? Un “improvisado ” juego de noche y pizza. Espero a que todos tengan una semana bastante estresante en el trabajo y yo sé que van entrar arrastrándose a la reunión del grupo. Le pido al lder de alabanza que cante una canción para empezar la reunión, y luego me levanto y tiro 5 dólares en la mesa. Luego digo: “¿Estoy escuchando al Espritu Santo? Sólo pensé que le o decir que los demás deberan contribuir, para pedir una pizza y tomar la tarde para pasar un buen rato juntos. “Por supuesto, si alguien necesita ser ministrado vamos a la sala y oramos por ellos después de comer”…

“La preparación de la lección” se trata de la preparación de tu corazón y amar a la gente con su tiempo en las reuniones, ya que es la creación de una lista de preguntas para el grupo para responder. Nunca olvide que Jesús invirtió la gran mayora de su tiempo con sus discpulos, no predicando.

Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ. Take particular care in picking out your building materials. Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If you use cheap or inferior materials, you’ll be found out. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous. You won’t get by with a thing. If your work passes inspection, fine; if it doesn’t, your part of the building will be torn out and started over. But you won’t be torn out; you’ll survive—but just barely. (1 Cor 3:11-15, The Message)

This passage describes the Bema Judgment of believers. We will all face an evaluation of our work at the end of this life. It will be the Shekinah, the Glory of God, that is the fire that burns away the wood, hay and stubble of our ministries.

Based upon how we built the Kingdom on earth, we will be assigned our servant positions in the future eternal Kingdom (Matthew 25:21, 23).

Another powerful scripture about our being accountable for our ministry is found in Revelation 4:2-5. Here we see 24 elders representing the churches before a throne which is emitting “flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God.” This is a throne of judgment of the churches. When the Holy Spirit calls forth body members to form the present body of Christ, the Basic Christian Communities are formed. Their task is to reveal the Presence and Power of the indwelling Christ. Remember: His final mission, to be completed in this age, is to draw all men to receive His Lordship.

If a cell group fails in the mission assigned to it, no matter how many times it meets for fellowship and study, etc., if it does not see unbelievers overwhelmed by Christ revealing His presence and power, if it does not hear them saying with awe, “God is certainly among you,” (1 Corinthians 14:24-25), they are building with “cheap or inferior materials.”

The most sacred body on the earth is Christ’s Basic Body. Their most sacred task is to so function that the energeia, the spiritual gifts, are so manifest that Christ is revealed as the source of their priestly lifestyle.

The first three chapters of Revelation shows Christ in the midst of the churches, evaluating their works. That same Son of God is sizing us up. Right now.

Construyendo sobre la fundación de Jesús.

Recuerde, solo hay un fundamento, el que está puesto, Jesucristo. Tenga un cuidado especial en la selección de los materiales de construcción. Eventualmente tendrás una inspección. Si utilizas materiales baratos o inferiores, lo descubrirán. La inspección será minuciosa y rigurosa. Nada va pasar por alto. Si su trabajo pasa la inspección, bien, pero si no pasa, su parte del edificio será demolido y tendrás que empezar nuevamente. No serás destruido; podrás sobrevivir, pero a duras penas. (1 Corintios 3:11-15, NVI)

Este pasaje describe el Juicio Bema de los creyentes. Todos enfrentarán una evaluación de nuestro trabajo al final de esta vida. Será la Shekinah, la gloria de Dios, la cual es el fuego que quema la madera, el heno y la hojarasca de nuestros ministerios.

En base a cómo construimos el Reino en la tierra, seremos asignados en nuestras posiciones en el futuro reino eterno (Mateo 25:21, 23).

Otra escritura de gran alcance sobre nuestra responsabilidades en nuestro ministerio se encuentra en Apocalipsis 4:2-5. Aqu vemos a 24 ancianos representando a las iglesias ante el trono que está emitiendo “relámpagos, estruendos y truenos”. Delante del trono ardan siete lámparas. Éstos son los siete espritus de Dios”. Éste es el trono de juicio de las iglesias. Cuando el Espritu Santo suscita a miembros del cuerpo para formar el cuerpo de Cristo presente, las Comunidades Eclesiales básicas se forman. Su tarea es revelar la presencia y el poder del Cristo que mora en nosotros. Recuerde: Su misión final, que se completará en esta época, es llamar a todos los hombres para recibir Su Señora.

Si un grupo celular falla en la misión asignada a la misma, no importa cuántas veces se reúna y estudie, etc., si no se ve a los incrédulos abrumados por Cristo revelando su presencia y poder, si no se oye decir con temor: “Dios está entre vosotros” (1 Corintios 14:24-25), están construyendo con “materiales baratos o inferiores.”

El órgano más sagrado sobre la tierra es el cuerpo de Cristo. Su tarea más sagrada es actuar para que la energa, los dones espirituales, sean manifestados en Cristo el cual revela la fuente y estilo de vida sacerdotal.

Los primeros tres captulos de Apocalipsis muestran a Cristo en medio de las iglesias, evaluando sus obras. Ese mismo Hijo de Dios nos esté buscando ahora mismo.

When I blogged for Joel last year, I shared a story of a cell member in my group who invited us to meet in her uncomfortable apartment (dirty floors and no furniture in the living area), located in a dangerous part of town, and with a roommate who constantly smoked marijuana in the next room with her boyfriend. The point I made in that blog was how important it was to meet in the home of new believers in your group so they can take ownership and minister to others in the most familiar place they know … their own home.

As I look back on the meeting in her home and the way Christ was revealed so powerfully, I can clearly see we missed a huge kingdom-extending opportunity. After two weeks of meeting there, we moved back to a more comfortable place for the group members. While I wasn’t the leader of the group, I’m now filled with regret that I didn’t impress on our group leader—who was the lead pastor of the church plant, by the way—to stay there and “tough it out” a little to see how God would continue to work in the new believer’s life and oikos.

This new believer had a dozen unsaved friends we never met. Her roommate was never befriended and reached for Christ. Her roommate’s boyfriend was never befriended and reached for Christ. We should have remained in that home until the Lord told us to move elsewhere!

I recently heard the pastor who understands “don’t move from house to house” challenge his group members and leaders with this: “God has given your group a ministry to other believers in your group and the church body, and a mission to reach the lost world all around you. Do not neglect one for the sake of the other or your group will fail.”

When I travel around the USA to train cell leaders, I know I’ll be asked, “Is it OK for us to meet in one host home that’s centrally located and comfortable for the members, or should we move the meeting around to various members’ homes?”

My answer usually introduces a new paradigm for Western cell group life: “Healthy cell life isn’t always about comfort and convenience for the existing members. It’s also about finding out where God wants you to pray, fellowship, worship, and minister and staying in that home until he tells you you’re done. If you’re always asking the Father, ‘is this the most powerful place we can meet you?’ he will tell you where you should meet for meetings and how long you should remain there.”

If your cell group leaders or members consistently ask or challenge you about the issue of cell group meeting location, you’ve got work to do. Help them see that healthy cell life is about fulfilling the relational mission to which God has called them.

Cumpliendo con la misión relacional de Dios

Cuando me escrib mi blog para Joel el año pasado, le conté una historia de un miembro de la célula de mi grupo, que nos invitó a reunirnos en su incómodo apartamento (pisos sucios y sin muebles en la sala), ubicado en una parte peligrosa de la ciudad, y con una compañera de cuarto que siempre fumaba marihuana en la habitación de al lado con su novio. El punto que hice en ese blog fue lo importante que era reunirse en la casa de los nuevos creyentes, en su grupo para que puedan tomar posesión y ministrar a otros en el lugar más familiar que conocen… su propia casa.

Cuando miro hacia atrás en la reunión en su casa y la forma en que Cristo fue revelado con tanta fuerza, puedo ver claramente que nos perdimos un gran reino de oportunidad. Después de dos semanas de reuniones all, nos mudamos a un lugar más cómodo para los miembros del grupo. Aunque yo no era el lder del grupo, ahora estoy lleno de pesar por no impresionar a nuestro lder de grupo que era el pastor de la iglesia, por cierto para permanecer all y “mantenerse fuerte” un poco al ver cómo Dios seguirá trabajando en la vida del nuevo creyente y de los oikos.

Este nuevo creyente tena una docena de amigos inconversos que nunca conoció. Su compañera de habitación nunca se hizo amiga y ni fue alcanzada para Cristo. El Novio de su compañera de cuarto nunca se hizo amigo y no fue alcanzado para Cristo. Nosotros debimos habernos quedado en ese hogar hasta que el Señor nos dijera fuéramos a otro lugar.

Recientemente escuché al pastor que entiende “no te muevas de casa en casa” desafa a tus miembros de los grupos y lderes con esto: “Dios ha dado a su grupo un ministerio y a otros creyentes en su grupo en el cuerpo de la iglesia, y una misión para alcanzar el mundo perdió a su alrededor. No descuides uno para el bien del otro o su grupo de fallará. ”

Cuando viajo por los EE.UU. para capacitar a los lderes celulares, yo sé que me van a preguntar, “¿Está bien que nos reunamos en la casa de un anfitrión en un lugar céntrico y cómodo para los miembros, o deberamos de mover la reunión a diferentes “hogares”?

Mi respuesta por lo general presenta un nuevo paradigma para la vida occidental del grupo celular: “la vida saludable de las células no siempre se trata de comodidad y conveniencia para los miembros existentes. También se trata de averiguar donde Dios quiere que usted ore, comparta, adore, y ministre en esa casa hasta que Dios te diga lo contrario. Si siempre estás pidiendo al Padre, “¿Es este el lugar más poderoso para reunirnos? él te dirá dónde debes reunirte y el tiempo que debes permanecer all.”

Si los lderes de los grupos de células o miembros siempre preguntan o te cuestionan acerca de la ubicación de la reunión del grupo celular, tienes trabajo que hacer. Ayúdeles a ver que una vida saludable en las células se trata de cumplir con la misión relacional a la que Dios los ha llamado.

Finding “a person of peace” isn’t difficult, although many Christians I know do not have one unsaved friend. Even though they’re surrounded by unchurched people at their workplace and in their community, they choose to spend all their time with people like themselves … Christians already living in community. I find this incredibly sad, and not just for the people who want and need Christ in the world. I’m also sad for the Christian who hasn’t yet discovered the most exciting and fun part of being a follower of Christ! Here’s a few principles to pass along to friends who know Christ but don’t have a clue as to how to go about meeting a person of peace:

Principle #1: Leverage an interest or hobby to find persons of peace

I enjoy a couple of hobbies, one of which is pen making. It’s a unique hobby that requires hours of patience with a half-dozen woodworking tools. Just like Jesus instructed the disciples in Luke 9, I drove to a guy’s house empty-handed every Saturday for over a year to learn how to take blocks of material and turn them into one-of-a-kind writing instruments. I had no money for shop equipment at the time, and just enough of a budget for fuel and the materials with which to make a pen each week.

Over the course of that year, my mentor and I enjoyed many hours together. I discovered that my pen-making mentor considered himself a “God-loving ex-Catholic” in dire need of fellowship and encouragement. I was introduced to three of his close friends, his son, his wife, and two business contacts. And I have prayed for and with each of these people at one time or another for financial, physical, or emotional breakthroughs.

Principle #2: Humbly ask persons of peace to serve you.

Western Christians quickly become cocooned after just a year or two after conversion. They’re living differently now, “going to church” each Sunday, and have a new set of friends that live with similar values. Truthfully, they don’t need the help of a person of peace because they get all their needs met within the Christian community. So breaking out of one’s comfy cocoon is important for success, but only to the extent that the believer asks the person of peace for help with something important.

In Luke 9, the disciples need food and shelter. My pen making lessons weren’t nearly as important in comparison. However, my new home office renovation was of critical importance to me. So, I asked my pen making mentor to drive 45 minutes from home for three weekends straight to help me build a closet into the room and work on my project and I asked his son, who owned a pickup truck, to come along and help me get the wood home from the lumber yard. And you know what he and his son said when they left that weekend, exhausted and covered in sawdust? “Thank you for asking me us help you. We really enjoyed it!”

To successfully find and engage a person of peace, you must share common ground with the person and remain humble enough to ask them to serve you. None of this is rocket science, but so few Christian’s with whom I connect understand it, so share this blog entry and get the word out.

Encontrando una “persona de paz”

Buscar la “persona de paz” no es difcil, aunque muchos cristianos que conozco no tienen un amigo que no sea salvo. A pesar de que estamos rodeados de personas inconversas en su lugar de trabajo y en su comunidad, optan por pasar todo su tiempo con gente como ellos… ya los cristianos viven en la comunidad. Esto me parece muy triste, y no sólo para las personas que quieren y necesitan a Cristo en el mundo. ¡Yo también estoy triste por el cristiano que no ha descubierto aún la parte más emocionante y divertida de ser un seguidor de Cristo! He aqu algunos principios para pasar a los amigos que conocen a Cristo, pero no tienen ni la menor idea de cómo ir a conocer a una persona de paz:

Principio # 1: Aprovecha un interés o afición para encontrar personas de paz

Disfruto de un par de hobbies, uno de los cuales es la toma de pluma. Es un pasatiempo único que requiere horas de paciencia con media docena de herramientas para trabajar la madera. As como Jesús instruyó a sus discpulos en Lucas 9, conduje a la casa de un hombre con las manos vacas todos los sábados desde hace más de un año para aprender a tomar bloques de material y convertirlo en instrumentos exclusivos de escritura. Yo no tena dinero para comprar el equipo en ese momento, y solo lo suficiente en el presupuesto para el combustible y los materiales con los cuales se iban hacer las plumas cada semana.

En el transcurso de ese año, mi mentor y yo disfrutamos de muchas horas juntos. Descubr que quien me enseño hacer las plumas se considera a s mismo un “amante de Dios ex-católico” en extrema necesidad de compañerismo y aliento. Me presentaron a tres de sus amigos cercanos, su hijo, su esposa y dos contactos de negocios. Y yo he orado por y cada una de estas personas en un momento por avances financieros, fsicos o emocionales.

Principio # 2: Pida humildemente a su gente de paz que le sirva.

Los cristianos occidentales se convierten rápidamente en capullo después de sólo un año o dos de la conversión. Están viviendo de manera diferente ahora, “yendo a la iglesia” todos los domingos, y tener un nuevo grupo de amigos que viven con valores similares. A decir verdad, no necesitan la ayuda de una persona de paz, ya que todas sus necesidades son satisfechas dentro de la comunidad cristiana. As que salir de un capullo cómodo es importante para el éxito, pero sólo en la medida en que el creyente pide a la persona de paz para ayudar con algo importante.

En Lucas 9, los discpulos necesitan comida y refugio. Mis lecciones de toma de pluma no eran tan importantes en comparación. Sin embargo, La renovación de mi nueva oficina tena una importancia fundamental para m. Entonces, le ped a mi mentor que condujera 45 minutos de su casa durante tres fines de semana consecutivos para ayudarme a construir unos armarios en la habitación de trabajo en mi proyecto y también se lo pidió a su hijo, que era dueño de una camioneta, para que viniera y me ayudara a traer la madera del aserradero a la casa. ¿Y sabes lo que él y su hijo, dijeron al terminar ese fin de semana, agotados y cubierto de aserrn? “¡Muchas gracias por pedirme que te ayudemos, Realmente lo disfruté!”

Para encontrar con éxito y participar con una persona de paz, debe compartir un terreno común con la persona y permanecer lo suficientemente humilde como para pedirle que te sirva. Nada de esto es ciencia de cohetes, pero pocos cristianos con quien me conecto lo entienden, as que comparto esta entrada de blog y hago correr la voz.
