A children’s cell group is radically different from a Sunday School class, but the outward format may look similar. It is a small group of children who are not necessarily of the same age group. Because the purpose of the group is not primarily to receive information, children of different ages and back grounds can feel comfortable together and they can minister to each other across the age-groups, just as brothers and sisters do.
The leader may be an adult at first, but as the children grow spiritually they can be given more and more of the leadership. The role of the leader is also different. The leader is not so much a teacher, as a pastor, role model, mentor and friend. Everyone joins in the discussion and the youngest children can share an experience or a question or a prayer which blesses the others.
The children’s cell is not like a school classroom. It is more like a family gathering. There is a warm relational activity to welcome everyone. There is a time of worship as all the children welcome Jesus and enter into his presence. This means that the songs are not to entertain the children, but to allow the children to bring pleasure to God. Once the children have understood this purpose, they can get very happy and creative about doing this.
Prayer is a vital element, when the children share their needs and encourage one another in their daily lives. They also learn how to pray for the needs of others.
When the children open the Bible together, the message is directed at equipping the children to live out their Christian lives in their weekday world. They need to see how God can help them, how he has helped people in the past, how he has helped others in the group. They need spiritual equipment to help them face their battles in life.
The last part of the meeting is the practical side of the message. What action will they take this week to make the message real? How hard will that be? Do they need help? What can God do to help them? Are there others who will need to help? Next meeting they will report in to the group how their action plans worked out.
Some churches feel this is the easiest option for transforming their Sunday School into cell groups. In practical terms it probably is, but the difficulty lies in transforming the attitudes of the adult leaders. The training sessions need to include several hands-on practice sessions of cell groups. Ideally they should include some children so that leaders can see how children respond. We have seen a tendency for leaders to revert to teachers, and often they are reluctant to allow the children to grow into leadership. A children’s pastor needs to mentor the groups especially in the early stages until the cell group culture becomes second nature.
Children do need to learn how to worship if they are to sense God’s presence in the cell group. This might be handled during the children’s Sunday celebration or through participation in lively adult Sunday worship. They will enjoy learning worship songs, rather than just “fun songsâ€, if they understand the songs and how they help us draw close to Jesus. Worship may best be taught by a worshipper. A guest leader from the church worship team may be able to tell the children about the spiritual awe that happens in the music or the silence when we feel God’s presence.
Cell groups will operate much better if the children are learning to discover their spiritual gifts.
They will learn that cell groups are not like groups at school which depend on group dynamics. They have the added presence of the Holy Spirit inside each of us. He will prompt us all to pray or share in a way that blesses others.
Many churches have started children’s cell groups with enthusiasm but after six months they have become just another class. The cell group depends on the Holy Spirit’s felt presence moving through the group. I have seen this happen in many places, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Alaska, Canada, the United States, England, Germany, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. They are powerful to transform the children’s experience of God and the church.
They may not be the ultimate cell group experience for children, but in churches in which it is hard to convince the whole congregation, they can go a good distance along the way.

¿Qué es diferente en Grupo Celular infantil?

Un grupo celular para niños radicalmente es diferente que la clase de escuela dominical, pero el formato exterior puede ser similar. Se trata de un pequeño grupo de niños que no son necesariamente del mismo grupo de edad. Debido a que el objetivo del grupo no es principalmente para recibir información, los niños de diferentes edades se pueden sentir cómodos juntos y pueden servirse los unos a los otros en todos los grupos de edad, al igual que los hermanos y hermanas lo hacen.
El lder puede ser un adulto al principio, pero a medida que crecen los hijos espirituales que se le puede dar más y más dirigencia. El papel del lder es también diferente. El lder no es tanto un maestro, es como un pastor, modelo, mentor y amigo. Todos se unen en la discusión y los niños más pequeños pueden compartir una experiencia o hacer una pregunta o pedir una oración que bendiga a los demás.
Las células de los niños no es como un aula de escuela. Es más como una reunión familiar. Es una actividad relacional cálida para dar la bienvenida a todos. Hay un tiempo de adoración para que todos los niños le den la bienvenida a Jesús y entren en su presencia. Esto significa que las canciones no son para entretener a los niños, sino para permitir a los niños que complazcan a Dios. Una vez que los niños han comprendido este propósito, pueden ser muy felices y creativos al hacer esto.
La oración es un elemento vital, cuando los niños comparten sus necesidades y se animan los unos a los otros en su vida cotidiana. También aprenden a cómo orar por las necesidades de otros.
Cuando los niños abren la Biblia juntos, el mensaje está dirigido a dotar a los niños a vivir su vida cristiana en el mundo, un da de la semana. Ellos necesitan ver cómo Dios les puede ayudar, cómo ha ayudado a la gente en el pasado, cómo ha ayudado a otros en el grupo. Necesitan equipos espirituales para ayudar a enfrentar sus batallas en la vida.
La última parte de la reunión es el lado práctico del mensaje. ¿Qué medidas van a tomar esta semana para hacer el mensaje real? ¿Qué tan difcil será eso? ¿Necesitan ayuda? ¿Qué puede hacer Dios para ayudarlos? ¿Hay otras personas que necesitarán ayuda? En la próxima reunión se presentará un informe en como han funcionado sus planes.
Algunas iglesias sienten que esto es la opción más fácil para transformar su Escuela Dominical en grupos celulares. En términos prácticos, probablemente lo es, pero la dificultad radica en la transformación de las actitudes de los lderes adultos. Las sesiones de entrenamiento deben incluir varias sesiones prácticas de entrenamiento de los grupos celulares. Idealmente deben incluir algunos niños para que los lderes puedan ver cómo responden los niños. Hemos visto una tendencia para que los lderes vuelvan a los maestros, y muchas veces no permiten que los niños se conviertan en lderes. El Pastor para niños necesita un mentor especialmente en las primeras etapas hasta la cultura del grupo celular se convierte en una segunda naturaleza.
Los niños necesitan aprender cómo adorar si van a sentir la presencia de Dios en el grupo celular. Esto puede ser tratado durante la celebración dominical de los niños o con la participación en vivo en el culto de adoración de los adultos. Ellos disfrutarán el aprender canciones de adoración, en lugar de sólo “canciones divertidas”, si entienden las canciones y la forma en que nos ayudan a acercarnos a Jesús. La adoración puede ser mejor enseñada por un adorador. Un lder invitado del equipo de adoración de la iglesia puede ser capaz de decirle a los niños sobre el respeto espiritual que sucede con la música o en el silencio cuando sentimos la presencia de Dios.
Los grupos celulares funcionarán mucho mejor si los niños están aprendiendo a descubrir sus dones espirituales.
Ellos aprenderán que los grupos celulares no son como los grupos en la escuela que dependen de la dinámica de grupos. Tienen que agregar la presencia mayor del Espritu Santo dentro de cada uno de nosotros. Se le pedirá a todos que oren o compartan a su manera la bendición a otros.
Muchas iglesias han comenzado los grupos celulares de niños con entusiasmo, pero después de seis meses se ha convertido en otra clase. El grupo celular depende de la presencia del Espritu Santo para que se mueva a través del grupo. He visto que esto suceda en muchos lugares, Singapur, Malasia, Hong Kong, Alaska, Canadá, Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Alemania, Sudáfrica, Nueva Zelanda y Australia. Ellos son poderosos para transformar la experiencia de Dios y de la iglesia a los niños
Tal vez no sean la mejor experiencia de grupo celular para los niños, pero en las iglesias en las que es difcil convencer a toda la congregación, ellos pueden recorrer un buen trecho en el camino.
