Most cell groups struggle to keep the balance between edification and evangelism. The focus tends to be inward and “what will I get out of this experience?” Last week I mentioned the four elements we ask all our cell group leaders to keep in balance during a typical gathering. This week I want to focus on the outward element. Here is what we tell our cell leaders:

• Us to the World (Sharing Christ) – This is a focus on local and world mission emphasis as well as a time when we share about our personal evangelism efforts and praying for those who need Christ.

There are three main things I try to accomplish during this section of the cell lesson:

#1 Expose any non-believers who are present that evening to the Gospel.

#2 Invite cell members to share any and all attempts they made to have a spiritual conversation or share the Gospel from the last week.

#3 Pray for those needing Christ.

These three things are not done every week but some combination of them will be present in every gathering.

Expose – As I write this I am excited about our next gathering. One of the college girls in our group is bringing a friend who is seeking, open and curious. One of the best ways to expose them to the Gospel is to have one or two of the cell members share a 2-3 minute testimony of how they surrendered to Christ. Occasionally if unbelievers are present and I’m aware of it I will share the Gospel in some way during the gathering.

Another thing we have done recently in a cell gathering is to have every person in the cell answer the following three questions on a card and turn it in to the leader.

1) What do you think happens to people when they die?

2) What do you think will happen to you when you die?

3) Why do you think that?

The cell leader could tell by the answers whether or not further follow up was needed to share the Gospel. Don’t assume every person in your cell is saved.

Invite – If you want the people of your cell to have evangelistic hearts then every week invite people to share their stories about reaching out, starting spiritual conversations and opportunities they had to share the Gospel from the past week. Obviously you lead by example but stories breed excitement and lead to more stories. This should be the norm in your cell.

Pray – Every week we take time to pray for those needing Christ. We do this in many different ways. Sometimes we sit in a chair on behalf of the person we long to see come to Christ and others gather around and pray over us. Other times we’ll bow our heads and pray as we’re led for the lost. Sometimes we break up into smaller sub-groups to pray for each other and for those we are longing to bring to Christ.

Take time in each gathering to focus on the real reason you are gathered and for which Jesus came. Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”

La verdadera razón para reunirse

La mayora de los grupos de células luchan por mantener el equilibrio entre la edificación y el evangelismo. El enfoque tiende a ser hacia el interior y ¿que saldrán de esta experiencia? La semana pasada mencione cuatro elementos donde le pedimos a todos nuestros lderes de los grupos celulares para mantenerse en equilibrio durante una reunión tpica. Esta semana quiero centrarme en el elemento externo. Esto es lo que les decimos a nuestros lderes celulares:

• Nosotros hacia el Mundo (Compartiendo a Cristo) – Este un enfoque en el énfasis de la misión local y mundial, as como un momento en el que compartimos acerca de nuestros esfuerzos de evangelismo personal y oramos por aquellos que necesitan a Cristo.

Hay tres cosas principales que tratan de lograr en esta sección de la lección celular:

# 1 Exponer a los no creyentes que están presentes la noche Evangelistica.

# 2 Invite a los miembros celulares para compartir cualquier y todos los intentos que hicieron para tener una conversación espiritual o compartir la palabra de la semana pasada.

# 3 Ore por aquellos que necesitan a Cristo.

Estas tres cosas no se hacen todas las semanas, pero una combinación de ellas estarán presentes en cada reunión.

Exponer – Mientras escribo esto, estoy entusiasmado con nuestra próxima reunión. Una de las muchachas de la universidad en nuestro grupo llevo a un amigo que está buscando, abierto y curioso. Una de las mejores maneras de exponer el Evangelio es tener uno o dos de los miembros de la célula que compartan un testimonio de 2-3 minutos de la forma en que recibieron a Cristo. De vez en cuando si los no creyentes están presentes y estoy consciente de esto, compartiré el Evangelio de alguna manera durante la reunión.

Otra cosa que hemos hecho recientemente en nuestra reunión celular es que cada persona en la célula debe responder a las siguientes tres preguntas en una carta y enviarla a su lder.

1) ¿Qué crees que sucede con las personas cuando mueren?

2) ¿Qué crees que te va a pasar cuando muera?

3) ¿Por qué crees eso?

El lder de la célula podra decir por las respuestas si se debe o no continuar con el seguimiento que se necesitaba para compartir el Evangelio. No asuma que todas las personas en su célula son salvas.

Invitación – Si desea que la gente de tu célula tenga corazones evangelisticos cada semana inviten a las personas a compartir sus historias de cómo fueron alcanzados, a partir de conversaciones espirituales y las oportunidades que tuvieron al compartir el Evangelio desde la semana pasada. Obviamente predicando con ejemplo, pero las historias alimentan la emoción y conducir a otras historias. Esta debera ser la norma en su célula.

Ore РCada semana nos tomamos un tiempo para orar por aquellos que necesitan a Cristo. Hacemos esto de muchas maneras diferentes. A veces nos sentamos en una silla, en nombre de la persona que hemos visto venir por mucho tiempo a Cristo y otros se re̼nen y oran por nosotros. Otras veces inclinamos nuestros rostros y pedimos por los perdidos. A veces nos dividimos en grupos peque̱os para orar unos por otros y por los que nos tienen muchas ganas de llevar a Cristo.

Tómese el tiempo en cada encuentro para centrarse en la verdadera razón por la que se reúnen y para el cual vino Jesús. Lucas 19:10 “Porque el Hijo del Hombre vino a buscar y a salvar lo que se haba perdido”.

Lichens are organisms that grow in hard, arid places where nothing else will grow. Lichens are an organic symbiosis that unites a fungus with an algae and together create a very fertile and productive environment. Likewise, discipleship and evangelism must be a symbiosis that creates a natural union in the cell, which then results in permanent growth. The cell must edify the saints and minister to the unbeliever. Evangelizing and discipling must be synchronized, as we can see in I Corinthians 3:8 “. . . he that planteth and he that watereth are one.” In other words, both are synchronized.

But how can we achieve this?

First, we must understand that the Word of God convinces saints and converts sinners. We must believe that every word without exception is useful for this purpose, as we can read in II Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” In other words, all scripture disciples and evangelizes at the same time. I always develop the lesson thinking of the “new believer” (the newly converted person). In doing so, I assume that the hearer does not have in-depth biblical knowledge, and with this in mind, I can teach in-depth on any topic. Because I do not assume that the hearer has a lot of biblical knowledge, my lessons reach unbelievers as well as believers. As an example, if I teach about sacrifice and use Abel as an example, I do not assume that everyone in the audience knows who Abel is, so I give background information about him.

Secondly, we must understand that the Holy Spirit is the one that convinces people of sin (John 16:8). This means that the salvation of a soul in a cell meeting is not up to us, nor even up to the sinner himself, but depends on the conviction of the Holy Spirit (Romans 9:15-17). The cell leader must cooperate with the Holy Spirit, preparing the atmosphere of the cell through worship and prayer, so the grace of salvation will be poured down and create the appropriate moment for salvation, as it says II Corinthians 6:1,2 “As God’s fellow workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.  For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” We also know that God brought the new person to the cell meeting (Acts 2:47), which means that the Holy Spirit has started working on that person even before he came to the cell.

Thirdly, it is very important to make a call for salvation when you finish your cell meeting. The way we do it in our cell meetings is that at the end of the meeting, we ask the new person directly if he wants to give his life to Christ and receive him as personal savior. It is very unusual that someone will refuse that invitation and even when they refuse it in the cell meeting, usually in the Sunday celebration meeting they will say “yes.”

Each cell should edify the believer and convert the unbeliever, as Dr. Cho, father of the modern cell movement, has been teaching since the 1950s.

DISCIPULADO Y EVANGELISMO

El liquen es un organismo que crece en los lugares inhóspitos, áridos, donde no crece absolutamente nada. El liquen es una simbiosis orgánica, una unión entre un hongo y un alga, que juntos crean un terreno fértil y productivo. El discipulado y el evangelismo deben estar en simbiosis, en una unión natural que cree en la célula un terreno fértil de crecimiento y evangelismo permanente. La célula debe edificar a los santos y ministrar a los no creyentes. Evangelizar y discipular deben estar sincronizados como vemos en 1Corintios 3:6-8, especialmente el versculo 8 donde dice “Y el que planta y el que riega son una misma cosa”, es decir se sincronizan.

¿Pero como puede hacerse esto?

En primer lugar, entendemos que es la palabra de Dios la única que puede convencer a los santos y convertir a los pecadores, pero toda palabra sin excepción, ya que toda ella es perfectamente útil en este propósito, como vemos en 2 Timoteo 3:16 Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios, y útil para enseñar, para redargüir, para corregir, para instruir en justicia. Es decir, que toda palabra de Dios es perfectamente discipuladora y evangelizadora a la vez. Pero es ah donde entra la pericia del que desarrolla la lección. Yo siempre desarrollo las lecciones para células pensando en “creyentes nuevos”, no en creyentes más antiguos, ni en no creyentes, sino en creyentes “recién convertidos”. No doy por sentado nunca el conocimiento bblico, y de esa manera enseño en profundidad sobre cualquier tema. Y al no dar por sentado el conocimiento bblico, el no creyente lo entiende y el creyente más antiguo o el más nuevo se edifica. Por ejemplo, si hablo del sacrificio y pongo como ejemplo a Abel, no doy por sentado que todos saben quien es Abel, sino doy una breve explicación de quien es Abel.

En segundo lugar, tenemos que entender que es el Espritu Santo el que convence de pecado (Juan 16:8). Esto quiere decir que la salvación de un alma presente en la célula, no depende de nosotros, ni siquiera de la propia persona, sino del Espritu Santo (Romanos 9:15-7). As que el lder de célula debe colaborar con el Espritu Santo, preparando la atmósfera de la célula a través la alabanza, la adoración, o la oración, para que se derrame la gracia de la salvación y se cree ese momento o tiempo favorable de salvación, como dice 2 Corintios 6:1 As, pues, nosotros, como colaboradores suyos, os exhortamos también a que no recibáis en vano la gracia de Dios. 2 Porque dice: En tiempo aceptable te he odo, Y en da de salvación te he socorrido. He aqu ahora el tiempo aceptable; he aqu ahora el da de salvación. Por otro lado sabemos que es Dios el que ha trado la persona nueva a la célula (Hechos 2:47), eso quiere decir que el Espritu Santo ya ha estado trabajando en él antes de que asistiera.

En tercer lugar, es muy importante hacer un llamado a la salvación al terminar la célula y si hay nuevos all. Nosotros en las células, al terminar la lección, le preguntamos directamente a la persona o personas nuevas, si quieren entregar su vida a Jesucristo y recibirle como su salvador personal, es muy raro que alguien diga que no, y si dice que no, generalmente dice que si el domingo en la celebración.

Toda célula debe edificar al creyente y convertir al no creyente, de hecho el Dr. Cho, padre del movimiento celular moderno, siempre enseñó eso.

The enemy of the Lord Jesus is constantly wearing down the saints of God as they soil their feet, walking through the kingdoms of this world.  When they gather to experience life in Christ alongside of other believers in a cell group, they need the cell leader and other members to offer life to them.  The environment of support and edification found in a cell group brings strength and renewal to all those present.

The content of the cell lessons, including all 4 Ws, can provide the stimulation and motivation for believers to renew their focus as they wash one another’s feet, helping cleanse each other from the contaminations of the world.  Each part of the Welcome, Worship, Word, Witness/Works has a specific purpose in the cell lesson. The friendship of Welcome, closeness of Worship, edification of Word, and teamwork of Witness/Works build to a point of commitment for the saints and their invited guests.

When those who do not yet know Christ observe the benefits that believers experience and hear testimony of God’s care for them, evangelism forms and the attractiveness of knowing Jesus becomes real to those without Christ.

I believe and have witnessed that when the body of Christ truly becomes Christ’s hands and feet in the cell group, Christians are built up and pre-believers are introduced to the Savior in a very natural way.

El 4Ws Le Beneficia a Todos

El enemigo del Señor Jesús está en constante desgaste de los santos de Dios, por el suelo y sus pies al caminar a través de los reinos de este mundo. Cuando se reúnen para experimentar la vida en Cristo, junto con otros creyentes en un grupo celular, es necesario que se nos permita ofrecer la vida para ellos. Esto puede ser un ambiente de apoyo y el fortalecimiento que hace la fuerza y la renovación de cada uno de nosotros.

El contenido de las clases de las células, incluyendo todas las 4Ws, puede proporcionar el estmulo y la motivación de los creyentes a renovar su enfoque, al lavarse los pies unos a otros, y ayudando a limpiar otros de las contaminaciones del mundo. Bienvenida, Alabanza, Palabra, testimonio / Obras: cada sección tiene un propósito en la clase de células, ya que cada sección ofrece una parte del todo. La amistad de bienvenida, la proximidad de la adoración, la edificación de la Palabra y el trabajo en equipo del testigo / Obras construyen un punto de compromiso de los santos y sus invitados.

Cuando aquellos que no conocen todava a Cristo observan los beneficios que los creyentes experimentan y escuchan en el testimonio del amor de Dios para ellos, la evangelización es la formación y el atractivo de conocer a Jesús, el cual se convierte en accesible para ellos como las barreras preconcebidas son arrasadas.

Yo creo que cuando el cuerpo de Cristo se forma en las células, los cristianos se construyen y pre-creyentes se introducen en el Salvador de una manera muy natural.

Great cell lessons transform the hearers rather than simply add to their Bible knowledge. The goal is transformation. But does this transformation only apply to Christians? No. Mario Vega in his last blog talked about evangelistic cell lessons. I believe the goal of transformation applies both to believers and unbelievers.

But how does this take place? We’ve been focusing on how to gear a cell lesson to believers, but what about unbelievers? Allow me to offer three suggestions:

Suggestion 1: Remember that God’s Word convicts both saints and sinners. Jesus said in John 16:7-8: “But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.” The Spirit of God is able to use verses directed toward believers to convict and minister to unbelievers. It’s God’s Word through the Spirit that brings conviction. Sometimes we become so “seeker friendly” that we end up hiding God’s Word. In reality, we need to expose unbelievers to God’s Word. The book, Worship Evangelism, talks about why the best way to convert sinners is to expose them to the living God. In summary, it’s okay to use the normal cell lesson when unbelievers are present because God’s Word will convict both the saved and unsaved.

Suggestion 2: Include “extra questions” geared toward non-Christians. Although the regular questions will minister to the unbelievers, the extra questions try to hit the target more precisely, making the Sunday sermon more palatable to the unbeliever. Granted, this takes more work to include extra questions.

Suggestion 3: Tweak the questions you already have. This is what most cell leaders do. If the cell leader knows in advance that a non-Christian is going to attend, he or she can choose the questions from the Sunday sermon that will be more relevant to the unbeliever (or change the question slightly to meet his or her needs). If a non-Christian shows up unexpectedly, the cell leader simply prays and seeks God to guide the discussion, which might mean tweaking a question, adding another one, or deleting one.. This is why I always say that the best cell leaders concentrate on preparing themselves spiritually to be ready for unexpected circumstances.

Lecciones en las Células, Tanto para Creyentes y No Creyentes

Las grandes lecciones en la célula transforman a los oyentes en lugar de simplemente añadir a su conocimiento Bblico. El objetivo es la transformación. Pero ¿Esta transformación sólo aplica a los cristianos? No Mario Vega, en su último blog hablo sobre las lecciones de células de evangelización. Creo que la meta de la transformación se aplica tanto a los creyentes y a los no creyentes.

Pero, ¿cómo sucede esto? Nos hemos centrado en cómo marcha una lección de células a los creyentes, pero ¿qué pasa con los no creyentes? Permtanme ofrecer tres sugerencias:

Sugerencia 1: Recuerde que la Palabra de Dios condena santos y pecadores. Jesús dijo en Juan 16:7-8: “Pero yo os digo la verdad: Os conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me fuera, el Consolador no vendra a vosotros; más si me fuere, os lo enviaré. Y cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio”. El Espritu de Dios es capaz de usar los versos dirigidos a los creyentes para condenar y ministrar a los incrédulos. Es la Palabra de Dios a través del Espritu que trae convicción. A veces nos sentimos tan “buscadores de amigos” que terminamos ocultando la Palabra de Dios. En realidad, tenemos que exponer a los incrédulos a la Palabra de Dios. El libro, el culto Evangelistico, habla de por qué la mejor manera de convertir a los pecadores es exponerlos al Dios vivo. En resumen, está bien usar la lección normal de las células cuando los incrédulos están presentes, porque la Palabra de Dios va a condenar a los salvos y no salvos.

Sugerencia 2: Incluye “preguntas adicionales”, orientada hacia los no cristianos. Aunque las preguntas regulares ministran a los no creyentes, las preguntas adicionales tratan de dar en el blanco con mayor precisión, por lo que la predicación del domingo es más aceptable para los no creyentes. Por supuesto, esto requiere más trabajo para incluir preguntas adicionales.

Sugerencia 3: Ajustar las preguntas que ya tienes. Esto es lo que la mayora de los lderes de células hacen. Si el lder de la célula sabe de antemano que un no cristiano va a asistir, él o ella puede elegir las preguntas de la predicación del domingo que será más relevante para el no creyente (o cambiar la pregunta un poco para satisfacer sus necesidades). Si un inconverso se presenta de manera inesperada, el lder de la célula simplemente ora y busca a Dios para guiar la discusión, lo que significa que debe ajustar una pregunta, la adición de otro, o la supresión de uno… Es por eso que yo siempre digo que los mejores lderes de la célula se concentran en prepararse espiritualmente para estar preparados para eventos inesperados.

The Elim cell lessons focus on evangelizing the lost. Their purpose is different from Wesley’s holy circles where Christians gathered for accountability and mutual admonition.

While there is within our cells communion and growth, the predominant focus is evangelism. The purpose of the lessons is to guide the guests to have faith in Jesus Christ.

Obviously, during the refreshment time, Christians have an opportunity to share their struggles, needs, victories, and joys. But, these things are not included in the content of the lesson. Rather, such conversations emerge naturally.

Of course, I rejoice in knowing that other cell churches include themes in their cell lessons that focus on believers. Each church must define its own lesson model. And as Robert Lay says: “The best model is the one that works for you.”

Modelos de Lecciones para Células.

Las lecciones para las células en Elim son completamente evangelizadoras. Su propósito es diferente al de los crculos santos de Wesley donde los cristianos se reunan para rendición de cuentas y amonestación mutua.

Si bien dentro de nuestras células existe la comunión y el crecimiento, el foco predominante es la evangelización. Las lecciones tienen como propósito encaminar a los invitados a la fe en Jesucristo.

Obviamente, en la hora del refrigerio los cristianos tienen oportunidad de compartir sus luchas, sus necesidades y sus gozos. Pero, estas cosas no están incluidas en el contenido de la lección. Las conversaciones surgen de manera natural.

Esta es la manera cómo enfocamos nuestro trabajo. Por supuesto, me gozo en saber que otras iglesias celulares incluyen en sus lecciones de células temas que son para los ya creyentes. Cada iglesia debe definir su propio modelo de lección. Y como lo dice Robert Lay: “El mejor modelo es el que funcione para ti.”
