Why should we honor our cell leaders? Those who have entertained such a question have never tasted life in a healthy cell group. A healthy group is a place where we can experience genuine love, acceptance and community … a place where we can experience belonging, meaning and purpose. Such a place doesn’t just happen – it’s the fruit of painstaking prayer, patience, perseverance, sacrifice and hard work by the leader. A cell leader’s role is risky business – not many people fare well in this office.

The role and responsibilities of a cell leader is similar to that of a shepherd. Often times, cell-leading is a thankless task. From personal experience, I can say that shepherding sheep is tons easier than shepherding people. Sheep readily hear the voice of their shepherd, and instinctively follow their lead (their lives and well-being are dependent upon following the lead of their shepherd). Many people, on the other hand, are reluctant to follow anyone’s lead … unless the following does not inconvenience them and is not costly.

The cell leader who is well-deserving of our honor is someone who holds true to their commitment to the Lord to lead, feed, nurture, and protect the people under their care … leading them into green pastures, and beside peaceful streams, no matter what obstacles and challenges they face. There are many exceptionally fine cell leaders out there, faithfully serving the Lord through their self-less leadership. These people have a right motivation – to love those in their group, and to honor the Lord. It would be a serious failure on our part not to honor these people. Remember: When we honor our cell leaders, we honor the Person whom they serve.

¿Por qué debemos honrar a nuestros lderes celulares? Los que han entretenido a esa pregunta nunca han probado la vida en un grupo de células sanas. Un grupo saludable es un lugar donde podemos experimentar el verdadero amor, la aceptación y la comunidad… un lugar donde podemos experimentar la pertenencia, sentido y propósito. Este lugar no sólo sucede – es el fruto de la oración minuciosa, la paciencia, la perseverancia, el sacrificio y el trabajo duro de un lder. El papel del lder celular es un negocio riesgoso – no ha muchas personas les va bien en esta oficio.

El papel y las responsabilidades de un lder celular son similares a las de un pastor. Muchas veces, ser lder de una célula es una tarea no muy agradecida. Desde mi experiencia personal, puedo decir que pastorear ovejas es más fácil que pastorear personas. Las ovejas fácilmente oyen la voz de su pastor, e instintivamente siguen su ejemplo (sus vidas y su bienestar dependen de seguir el ejemplo de su pastor). Muchas personas, por otra parte, son renuentes a seguir el ejemplo de alguien… a menos que lo siguiente no los moleste y no les sea costoso.

El lder de la célula que es bien merecedor de honor es una persona que se mantiene fiel a su compromiso con el Señor para dirigir, alimentar, nutrir y proteger a las personas bajo su cuidado… conducirlos a pastos verdes, y al lado de los tranquilos arroyos, no importa cuáles son los obstáculos y desafos que enfrentan. Hay muchos lderes excepcionales ah fuera, sirviendo fielmente al Señor a través de su liderazgo. Estas personas tienen una motivación correcta – para amar aquellos de su grupo, y para honrar al Señor. Sera un grave error de nuestra parte el no cumplir con estas personas. Recuerde: Cuando honramos a nuestros lderes celulares, honramos a la persona a la que sirven.

You get what you “praise” and everyone notices. Here are a few thoughts to remember:

• Praise is what old men die for and what babies cry for.
• Honoring leaders displays what you “value.”
• Unpaid staff look forward to being appreciated; it is, in fact, one part of their compensation!
• Rejoicing together in the good work God has accomplished, through their dedication and service, builds strength and solidarity.
• Honoring others keeps the focus in the right place (off of yourself!)
• Remember “the turtle on a fence post.” If you see one there, one thing is certain, he had help getting there. If you are succeeding in cell ministry it is because your leaders helped you get there. Thanking them is common courtesy and well deserved.
• A good coach displays this attitude: when the team wins a match he/she says “We Won,” and when the team loses a match he/she says, “I lost that one.”

Think about it.

Usted consigue lo que usted “alaba” y todos lo notan. Aqu ah algunos pensamientos para recordar:

• Alabar es por lo que los viejos mueren y por lo que los bebés lloran.
• Honrar a tus lderes muestra lo que tu “vales”.
• Personal no pagado espera ser apreciado, es, de hecho, ¡una parte de su retribución!
• Regocijarse juntos en la buena obra que Dios se ha completado, a través de su dedicación y servicio, aumenta la fuerza y la solidaridad.
• Honrar a los demás mantiene el enfoque el lugar correcto (¡fuera de ti mismo!)
• Recuerde “la tortuga en el poste de la cerca.” Si uno ve all, una cosa es cierta, el tubo ayudar para llegar all. Si usted está teniendo éxito en el ministerio celular es porque sus lderes le ayudaron a llegar hasta all. Agradeciendo a ellos es cortesa y bien merecida.
• Un buen entrenador muestra esta actitud: “. cuando un equipo gana un partido él / ella dice: “Ganamos”, y cuando el equipo pierde un partido que él / ella dice “perdimos solo ese”,

Paul said to those gathered in the house churches in Thessalonica, “Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other” (1 Thessalonians 5:12). Paul was writing to the believers about the need to recognize the house church leaders who were opening their homes and serving voluntarily.

The NIV version uses the word “respect,” but the Greek word in 1 Thessalonians 5:12 literally means “to perceive” or “to know” those who labor among you. The NASV uses the word “appreciate” which correctly describes the meaning of this word.

When we appreciate or recognize the diligent labors of cell leaders, we honor and affirm the leaders’ service and ministry. It’s akin to a “payment” for well-rendered service.

December is a great time to honor your cell leadership. They’ve been working hard all year by serving voluntarily. Now is the time to make them feel special. I’m not only referring here to main leader but also to the entire team, which include co-leaders, leaders, supervisors, and pastors. What are some of the best ways to honor cell leadership at the end of the year? Here are some ideas:

• Acknowledgement before the congregation: Plan a special recognition time during the celebration worship service. Ask the leadership to come forward (co-leaders, leaders, supervisors, and pastors). Speak kind words about their service, pray for them, and give them something special like a card, book, t-shirt, carrying bag, or whatever you can financially afford.
• A special meal: If there are less than a dozen small group leaders, I recommend preparing a special meal for them. You could do this at a home or restaurant. If you go to restaurant, find one that has a backroom, so you can concentrate better. Speak words of encouragement to the leaders. Pray for them. Give them a special gift. This is a time of honoring them for their hard work during the past year.
• Banquet: If your church is large and there are more than fifteen leaders, I suggest having a special dinner at the church building, hotel, or other rented facilities. The goal of this time is to encourage the small group leaders for their labor of love. A slide show or video is a great way to remember what God has done in the past year. Give an encouraging message to the leaders, appreciating them for their hard work. Remind them of their heavenly rewards and the motivation for cell leadership: serving Jesus and ministering to his sheep.

An encouraging, uplifting time of recognition will instill a sense of accomplishment in your small group leaders and prepare them emotionally and spiritually for the upcoming year.

This month on the JCG blog, we will be exploring how to honor cell leadership. Experienced cell church pastors will write 15 blogs on this topic during the month of December. We’ll cover:

• Week 1 (December 02-08): why we should honor our cell leaders at the end of a year’s cycle. We must always remember that cell leaders are pastoring the people voluntarily. Even though their reward is from God, we have the privilege and responsibility of honoring them for their important work.
• Week 2 (December 09-15): Ways to honor cell leaders. Here are a few: honoring them in the church service on Sunday, a meal at a restaurant or home, banquet at the church, or special Christmas gifts. We need to be creative in thinking about ways to honor our cell leaders.
• Week 3 (December 16-22): Encouraging the leaders to rest during the holiday season. Christ’s yoke is easy and his burden is light. We need to encourage our leaders to spend time with family, reflect on the past year, and become rejuvenated for the next year. The Christian life is a marathon and not a fifty yard dash. Some cell groups will continue meeting throughout the Christmas season while others will take a break. Encourage leaders to spend time with family and recharge their batteries.

Honrando el Liderazgo Celular

Pablo dijo a los reunidos en las iglesias de las casas de Tesalónica: “Os rogamos, hermanos, que reconozcáis a los que trabajan entre vosotros, y os presiden en el Señor, y os amonestan”(1 Tesalonicenses 5:12). Pablo escribió a los creyentes acerca de la necesidad de reconocer a los lderes de la iglesias en casas que estaban abriendo sus casas y sirviendo voluntariamente.

La Nueva Versión Internacional usa la palabra “respeto,”pero la palabra griega en 1 Tesalonicenses 5:12 literalmente significa “percibir” o “conocer” a los que trabajan entre vosotros. La Nueva Biblia Americana usa la palabra “apreciar,” que describe correctamente el significado de esa palabra.

Cuando apreciamos o reconocemos la labor diligente de los lderes celulares, honramos y afirmamos el servicio de los lderes y el ministerio. Es semejante a un “pago” por el buen servicio.

Diciembre es un buen momento para honrar sus lderes celulares. Han estado trabajando duro todo el año, sirviendo voluntariamente. Ahora es el momento de hacer que se sientan especiales. No sólo me refiero aqu al lder de una célula, sino también a todo el equipo, que incluyen co-lderes, lderes, supervisores y pastores.

¿Cuáles son algunas de las mejores maneras para honrar el liderazgo celular al final del año? Aqu están algunas ideas:

• Reconocimiento ante la congregación: Planifique un tiempo de reconocimiento especial durante el servicio de celebración. Pdale a sus lderes que pasen al frente. Hable palabras de amor acerca de su servicio, ore por ellos, y deles algo especial, como una tarjeta de felicitación, libro, camiseta, bolsa de transporte, o lo que usted pueda permitirse económicamente.
• Una comida especial: si hay menos de una docena de lderes, te recomiendo preparar una comida especial para ellos. Usted puede hacer esto en una casa o en un restaurante. Si usted va a un restaurante, busque uno que tengo un cuarto privado, para que pueda concentrarse mejor. Hable palabras de aliento a los lderes. Ore por ellos. Deles un regalo especial. Este es un tiempo de honrarlos por su duro trabajo durante el año.
• Banquete: Si su iglesia es grande y hay más de quince lderes, sugiero que tenga una cena especial en el edificio de la iglesia, hotel, u otras instalaciones alquiladas. El objetivo de este tiempo es animar a los lderes por su obra de amor. Una presentación de diapositivas o un vdeo es una gran manera de recordar lo que Dios ha hecho en el último año. Da un mensaje de aliento a los lderes, apreciando su duro trabajo. Recuérdeles de sus recompensas celestiales y la motivación para el liderazgo celular: servir a Jesús y ministrar a sus ovejas.

Un tiempo de aliento, edificación y reconocimiento inculcará un sentido de logro en sus lderes celulares y los preparará emocionalmente y espiritualmente para el próximo año.

Este mes en el blog de JCG, vamos a explorar cómo honrar el liderazgo celular. Experimentados pastores de iglesias celulares escribirán 15 blogs sobre este tema durante el mes de diciembre. Debemos animar a nuestros lderes para que pasen tiempo con su familia, reflexionar sobre el año pasado, y rejuvenecerse para el próximo año. La vida cristiana es un maratón y los lderes deben tener momentos para recargar su energa. Algunos grupos celulares continuarán reuniéndose a lo largo de la temporada de Navidad, mientras que otros se tomarán un descanso. Aliente a los lderes a pasar tiempo con su familia y a recargar sus bateras.
