As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,†Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.†At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets (Mark 1:16-20).
When the disciples cast out their nets, they did it as a group. When Jesus told them that he would make them fishers of men, he was also thinking about group fishing. Jesus never sent the disciples out alone (Luke 9 & 10). He wanted His disciples to live out the Gospel before others so that the unbelievers might see their changed lives and believe in Him.
Group evangelism takes the pressure off one person. The group works better together. All are involved. All reach out. It’s not the experience of one person doing the work of the ministry, but everyone is involved and helping out. Cell evangelism is a shared experience. Everyone has a part to play. And this is where the discipleship occurs. It’s not the preacher’s job. It’s not on the shoulders of the evangelist. Each member is participating and growing in the process. Each person has a job, from the person who invites the guests, to the one who provides refreshments, to the one who leads the discussion. The team plans, strategizes, and finds new contacts together. Dale Galloway writes, “Once the list [of invitees] is built, the team begins to pray the prospect list, then to work it—making phone calls and home visitations. This responsibility can be shared with others in the small group†(The Small Group Book, p. 122)
Personal involvement matures people. God uses large group evangelism, like crusades and concerts, but the danger is a few people doing the work while the rest watch and stagnate. In cell group evangelism, there’s the shared responsibility which is critical for growth in discipleship. Depending on the lead pastor to do all the evangelism is not a biblical idea. God desires that each member is using his or muscles to reach out.

Mientras Jesús caminaba junto al mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y a Andrés hermano de Simón, echando la red en el mar; porque eran pescadores. Jesús les dijo: “Venid en pos de m, y os haré pescadores de hombres.” De inmediato dejaron sus redes y le siguieron (Marcos 1:16-19).
Cuando los discpulos echaron sus redes, lo hicieron como un grupo. Cuando Jesús les dijo que les hara pescadores de hombres, también Jesús estaba pensando en la pesca del grupo. Jesús nunca mandó a los discpulos a solas (Lucas 9 y 10). Él quera que sus discpulos vivan el evangelio en la presencia de los demás para que los creyentes pudieran ver sus vidas cambiadas y creer en él.
Evangelismo en el grupo quita la presión de una persona. Todos están involucrados. Todos alcanzan a otras personas. No es la experiencia de una persona que hace la obra del ministerio, sino a todos se involucan y ayudan. Evangelismo celular es una experiencia compartida. Todos tienen un papel que desempeñar. Y en el proceso se produce el discipulado.
Debemos recordar que el evangelism no es el trabajo del predicador o el evangelista. Cada miembro participa y tiene un lugar importante de la persona que invita a otras personas, al que ofrece refrescos, y al que conduce la discusión. El equipo planea, strategizes, y encuentra nuevos contactos juntos. Dale Galloway escribe: “Una vez que se construye la lista de invitados, el equipo comienza a orar por la lista, y luego llama a los que están en la lista. Esta responsabilidad puede ser compartida con otros en el grupo” (The Small Group Book, p. 122).
Participación madura a todos en el grupo. Dios usa differentes maneras para evangelizar, como las cruzadas y conciertos, pero el peligro es depender en solo algunas personas para realizar el trabajo, mientras que los demás descansan y se estancan. En el grupo de evangelismo celular, hay una responsabilidad compartida, que es fundamental para el crecimiento en el discipulado. Depender en el pastor principal para evangelizar no es una idea bblica. Dios desea que cada miembro está utilizando los músculos espiriualies en el proceso de evangelismo.
