A note to a denominational overseer from a new cell Pastor:
As I have begun restructuring this congregation into a cell-based ministry, I certainly need your support and wisdom. I recognize that our Savior has placed you as my direct supervisor and with you backing me, my confidence is raised. Cell ministry is not a fad, or simply the latest idea for growing a congregation, it is a New Testament, early church model that the Holy Spirit is refreshing in our generation.
Now that I have a few leaders in place and my prototype cell group is catching the vision for penetrating our community with healthy cells, I see that it will take a little longer to set the foundation for exponential growth. This stirs me to boldness in asking for the following things from you:
- Don’t move me from this congregation within the next 5 years – I understand from my research and conversations with other cell-driven pastors that it may take at least that long to transition the church completely. Allow me the time to complete this change successfully.
- Learn with me – much of what I am attempting is “new” to me also and although it is exciting now, I am certain that a test of faith will arise and doubts will attack my thinking. It will be powerfully effective to have you understand what I’m facing and help me to victory.
- My monthly, semi-annual and annual reports to the District will be quite different than before – we measure our success by monitoring how many leaders are being prepared in our equipping track. Previously my reports were concerned with the number of people attending on Sunday and Wednesday along with how many are in Sunday School classes. We can review my reports together for a better explanation of our new focus on number of salvations, number of baptisms, how many cells we have, and how many are in those cell groups each week. The weekend service counts will now be a derivative of our success in the stated areas of ministry focus.
- Because I am learning this method of ministry, I would benefit from a knowledgeable coach – there are other pastors and cell coaches available to me that are operating in other denominations with great success. I believe it would be healthy for me to obtain objective reviews and input in order to progress with as few errors as possible. Additional resources will be needed from the District for this coaching, would you consider a budget for this an appropriate expense? Implementing a 1 – 3 year contract with a cell coaching minister would be best.
- As I am proceeding in cell-based ministry and receiving regular coaching, I can provide training for my leaders personally. Materials are essential for my leaders as we grow in this vision – you will see that my newly submitted budget has a section for leadership books (I don’t think this has been done before?).
- A series of steps for discipling new believers is a main requirement for new converts – this has been the case for this congregation in the past, but I hope for a greater number of new salvations and water baptisms than in previous years. I will be asking members of the congregation to purchase the training track books for those they are discipling so there should not be a need for additional support from the District.
In closing, I understand that I may be the “odd one” when we gather at district conference. I do not wish to appear out-of-step with you or the district leadership in any way. It is my desire to stay in close communication with you at all times. Our regular conversations will be a pleasure and frankly, I hope to talk a little more often than ever before. Together, I believe we can effectively strengthen this congregation to make a difference in this community like never before.

Estimado Supervisor
Una nota a un supervisor denominacional de un nuevo Pastor celular:
Como ya he comenzado la restructuración de esta congregación a un ministerio celular, ciertamente necesito de tu apoyo y sabidura. Reconozco que nuestro Salvador te ha puesto como mi supervisor directo y con tu apoyo, mi confianza se eleva. El Ministerio celular no es una moda pasajera, o simplemente la última idea para el cultivo de una congregación, es un modelo del Nuevo Testamento, es la iglesia primitiva la cual el Espritu Santo esta refrescando en nuestra generación.
Ahora que tengo unos cuantos lderes en su lugar y mi grupo celular prototipo está imponiendo la visión para penetrar en nuestra comunidad con células sanas, veo que va a tardar un poco más para sentar las bases para un crecimiento exponencial. Esto me mueve a la audacia de pedir lo siguiente de usted:
- No me muevan de esta congregación en los próximos 5 años – Entiendo por mis investigaciones y conversaciones con otras células controladas por pastores, que puede tomar por lo menos ese tiempo para hacer la transición a la iglesia por completo. Permtame el tiempo para completar este cambio con éxito.
- Aprende conmigo – mucho de lo que estoy intentando es “nuevo” para m también y aunque es emocionante ahora, estoy seguro de que una prueba de fe y dudas atacaran mi pensamiento. Será poderosamente efectivo saber que entiendes lo que estoy atravesando y ayúdame a la victoria.
- Mis informes mensuales, semestrales y anuales al Distrito serán muy diferentes a los de antes – medimos nuestro éxito al monitorear cuántos lderes se están preparando en nuestra pista de equipamiento. Anteriormente mis informes se referan a la cantidad de personas que asistieron el domingo y el miércoles junto con cuántos están en las clases de la Escuela Dominical. Podemos revisar mis informes juntos, para una mejor explicación de nuestro nuevo enfoque en el número de salvos, el número de bautismos, cuántas células tenemos, y cuántos hay en los grupos celulares cada semana. El conteo del servicio del fin de semana ahora será un derivado de nuestro éxito en las áreas de interés en el ministerio.
- Porque yo estoy aprendiendo este método del ministerio, me beneficiare de un entrenador bien informado – hay otros pastores y entrenadores celulares disponibles para m, que están operando en otras denominaciones con gran éxito. Creo que será saludable para m obtener opiniones objetivas y aportaciones con el fin de avanzar con el mnimo número de errores posibles. Los recursos adicionales se necesitarán en el Distrito para este entrenamiento, ¿Considerara un presupuesto para este gasto apropiado? La implementación de un 1 – 3 años de contrato con un ministro de entrenamiento en la célula sera lo mejor.
- Como estoy procediendo en el ministerio celular y en el recibir entrenamiento regular, puedo capacitar a mis lderes personalmente.
