Last Sunday, April 1, 2012, marked the completion of a 3-year transition of Pastoral leadership for our congregation.  John 3:30 has been a key verse for me during the last 30 months as Rob Hastings has prepared to be our Lead Pastor, taking my place as Senior Pastor. I have been the privileged pastor of Big Bear Christian Center for 28 years.

As a father and grandparent, I recognize the parallels that exist in leading a congregation.  We have been family, are family, and try to keep family first in everything we do.  The family is the 1st church.  God sets the solitary in families.  God is keeping His eye on the fatherless, widow, foreigner, and the poor, and has promised to repay those who lend to them (Proverbs 19:17). These people do not need a financial loan, they need us, the family of God, to lend to them supportive relationships within which they may be comforted, healed and return to wholeness from their brokenness.

I hope that this week our theme touches this verse many times; “I am writing these things to you now, even though I hope to be with you soon, so that if I am delayed, you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15 NLT  We are the household of God!!  Our conduct?  All are welcome, our homes remain open, our lives are for sharing, our hope is in HIM, we will live in families and extended families that encompass those He places together.  We live in and from the Truth, Jesus Christ the Lord of life.

I love seeing the Philippian jailer in Acts 16:33-34 come to Jesus, minister healing to the apostles and then lead his entire family to salvation and baptism.   Cornelius is my hero as he calls for Peter, in Acts 10, and then assembles his OIKOS of family, friends and household servants to be there when Peter arrives.  Cornelius wants those closest to himself to hear from God at the same time he does and to be able to receive whatever God has designed.  These are just two examples of how the church is established in family settings, exampling the earliest formations that show us how to organize the church throughout every generation.

I love God’s design, I see it in cells and cell church structures that support life-giving family units where people find wholeness in spirit, soul and body!

Guiando familias a Cristo

El Último Domingo, 01 de abril 2012, marcó la culminación de una transición de 3 años de liderazgo pastoral en nuestra congregación. Juan 3:30 ha sido un versculo clave para m durante los últimos 30 meses, Rob Hastings se ha estado preparado para ser nuestro pastor principal, tomando mi lugar como pastor principal. He sido un pastor privilegiado en el Centro Cristiano Big Bear durante 28 años.

Como padre y abuelo, reconozco los paralelismos que existen en la conducción de una congregación. Hemos sido familia, somos familia, y tratamos de mantener a la familia por primera vez en todo lo que hacemos. La familia es la primera iglesia. Dios establece el régimen de aislamiento en las familias. Dios está guardando sus ojos en la viuda de huérfanos, los extranjeros y los pobres, y se ha comprometido a pagar a los que prestan (Proverbios 19:17). Estas personas no necesitan un préstamo financiero, nos necesitan a nosotros, la familia de Dios, para dar relaciones de apoyo dentro de la cual puedan ser consolados, curados y volver a la plenitud de su quebrantamiento.

Espero que esta semana nuestro tema toque este versculo muchas veces: “Yo escribo estas cosas para que ahora, aunque espero estar con ustedes pronto, para que si tardo, sepas cómo debes conducirte en la casa de Dios, que es la iglesia del Dios viviente, columna y baluarte de la verdad. “1 Timoteo 3:15 RV ¡Somos la casa de Dios! ¿Somos conducto? Todos son bienvenidos, nuestras casas permanecen abiertas, nuestras vidas son para compartir, nuestra esperanza está en él, vamos a vivir en las familias y las familias ampliadas que abarcan a aquellos que El pone juntos. Vivimos en y desde la Verdad, a Jesucristo el Señor de la vida.

Me encanta ver el carcelero de Filipos en Hechos 16:33-34 vienen a Jesús, ministran la sanidad a los apóstoles y luego dan lugar a toda su familia a la salvación y el bautismo. Cornelio es mi héroe como él llama a Pedro, en Hechos 10, y luego reúne a sus OIKOS de familiares, amigos y sirvientes de la casa para estar all cuando Pedro llega. Cornelio quiere que los más cercanos a él escuchen a Dios, al mismo tiempo el hace y se hace capaz de recibir lo que Dios ha diseñado. Estos son sólo dos ejemplos de cómo la iglesia se estableció en el entorno familiar, explicando las primeras formaciones que nos muestran la forma de organizar la iglesia a través de cada generación.

Me encanta el diseño de Dios, yo lo veo en las células y estructuras celulares que soportan la iglesia que da vida a las familias donde las personas encuentran ¡la plenitud de espritu, alma y cuerpo!

I believe that “family”  is the principal image of the church in Scripture. Paul says in  1 Timothy 3:15, “If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.”

The family of God and household of God are two sides of the same coin and both extend from the house church. The household of God goes beyond the idea of nuclear family and refers to the larger kinship group (oikos) that met in the early house churches. Christ’s family extends beyond blood relationships and reaches all those who call on Jesus as Lord and Savior.

When Christ’s mother and brothers wanted the first place in line to see Jesus, he replied, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Matthew 12:48-50). While blood ties are important, a right relationship with the Father and his family is even more essential.

Robert Banks writes, “The metaphor of the family was a vital one to Paul. . . .For given the family character of the Christian community, the homes of its members provided the most conducive atmosphere in which they could give expression to the bond they had in common” (Paul’s Idea of Community, p. 49).

Use of the homes of Christians for the gathering of the community reflects the family character of the early church. The atmosphere and attitudes in the community speak to fundamental family values, like trust, respect, love, patience, tolerance, and generosity. The home atmosphere provided the necessary interaction for truly being the church.

This month on the  JCG blog, we will be exploring different aspects of the family of God and how that applies to the cell church.  Experienced cell church pastors will write 25 blogs on the topic of cell and celebration throughout the month of April. • Week 1 (April 1-7): Family theme in the Bible. Ephesians 2:19, Galatians 6:19, and 1 Timothy 3:15 refer to the church as the family. The idea of the church as the household of God came out of the actual house churches. The church as family is one of the central images of the church and many scholars believe it is the main theme..
• Week 2 (April 8-14): Group and family orientation of those to whom the NT is written. The U.S. and western world is more individualistic, but this is a recent phenomenon. The Bible is written to the Mediterranean culture which was group oriented. We are called to look beyond ourselves and welcome others into the family of God. So many are lost, lonely, and hurting. They need a family. Cell groups help them to find a family of God.
• Week 3 (April 15-21): The nuclear family. Healthy cells  come from healthy families. We must not neglect the nuclear family! The inner circle is the first cell and healthy cell groups focus on family health. Key questions are: What are we doing to strengthen the family? What should we be doing?
• Week 4: (April 22-28) Family cells. I believe the bread and butter of cell homogeneity must be the family cell.  Yes, we can have other types of cells (men’s, women’s, youth, children, etc.) but family cells are critical and must serve as the base.
• Week 5: (April 29-May 05) Testimonies of strengthening the family. What are cell churches doing to prioritize family in both cell and celebration. We will hear about what churches are doing to priority family.

La Iglesia Como Familia

Creo que la “familia” es la imagen principal de la iglesia en las Escrituras. Pablo dice en 1 Timoteo 3:15, “Para que si tardo, sepas cómo debes conducirte en la casa de Dios, que es la iglesia del Dios viviente, columna y baluarte de la verdad.”

La familia de Dios y casa de Dios son las dos caras de una misma moneda y ambos se extienden desde la iglesia en casas. La casa de Dios va más allá de la idea de familia y se refiere al grupo de parentesco más amplio (oikos) que se reunió en las primitivas iglesias domésticas. La familia de Cristo va más allá de las relaciones de sangre y llega a todos los que invocan a Jesús como Señor y Salvador.

Cuando la madre de Cristo y sus hermanos queran el primer lugar en la fila para ver a Jesús, él respondió: “¿Quién es mi madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?” Señalando a sus discpulos, dijo: “Estos son mi madre y mis hermanos”. Porque cualquiera que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en el cielo es mi hermano y hermana y madre” (Mateo 12:48-50).

Robert Banks escribe: “La metáfora de la familia era vital para Pablo…. Para dar el carácter familiar de la comunidad cristiana, Dios usó el ambiente familiar de las casas” (Idea de Pablo de la Comunidad, p. 49).

El uso de las casas de los cristianos para la reunión en la comunidad refleja el carácter familiar de la iglesia primitiva. Estoy hablando de valores fundamentales como confianza, el respeto, el amor, la paciencia, la tolerancia y la generosidad. El ambiente en casa es siempre la interacción necesaria para ser verdaderamente la Iglesia.

Este mes en el blog JCG, vamos a explorar los diferentes aspectos de la familia de Dios y la forma en que se aplica a la iglesia celular. Experimentados pastores de las iglesias celulares van a escribir 25 blogs sobre el tema de la célula y la celebración durante todo el mes de abril. El crculo interior es la primera célula y el enfoque saludable de grupos celulares de salud en la familia. Las preguntas clave son: ¿Qué estamos haciendo para fortalecer la familia? ¿Qué debemos hacer?
• Semana 4: (abril 22-28) las células familiares. Yo creo que el pan y la mantequilla son la homogeneidad de células y debe ser la familiar celular. S, podemos tener otros tipos de células (hombres, mujeres, jóvenes, niños, etc.), pero las células familiares son fundamentales y deben servir como base.
• Semana 5: (abril 29 a mayo 05) Testimonios de fortalecimiento de la familia. ¿Cuáles son las iglesias celulares que dar prioridad a la familia tanto en la célula y la celebración? Vamos a escuchar lo que están haciendo las iglesias a la familia.
