The New Testament is the best example to follow. The churches in the houses had leaders and/or  mature people called “fathers” in 1 John 2:12-14. These “fathers” were responsible for the “young men” and the “young men” were responsible for the “children.”

I think the apostle John shows a pattern followed by the New Testament church. It was a relational chain of care and support in the body of Christ. We call it discipleship. Today we have a great variety of forms and different names for the same basic principle demonstrated by Jesus Christ. It is the only command given by the Master before He left us and went back to the Father. He told his followers to “make disciples,” not church members.

The cell is the most sacred body on earth. It is the dwelling place of the fullness of God. It is the sacred body of Christ. It is the house where the Godhead dwells.

The cell is a spiritual family. The same way a child is taken care of by a biological father and/or mother, the new born believer is cared for by his spiritual parents and the cell members, his spiritual family. The cell is formed into small basic Christian units, building blocks of the house of God.

The greater structure is the cell system  which has leaders, coaches, training, and celebration services. The cell church setting is the perfect environment for the growth of new believers.

Haciendo discpulos a través de la estructura celular

El Nuevo Testamento es el mejor ejemplo a seguir. Las iglesias en las casas tenan lderes y / o personas mayores llamados “padres” en 1 Juan 2:12-14. Estos “padres” fueron los responsables de los “jóvenes” y de los “hombres jóvenes” fueron los responsables de los “niños”.

Creo que el apóstol Juan nos muestra aqu, un patrón seguido por la Iglesia del Nuevo Testamento. Era una cadena relacional de atención y apoyo en el cuerpo de Cristo. Y lo llamamos discipulado. Hoy contamos con una gran variedad de formas y diferentes nombres por el mismo principio básico y demostrado por Jesús Cristo. Es el único comando dado por el Maestro antes el cual nos dejó y volvió al Padre, “hacer discpulos” no miembros de la Iglesia.

La célula es el órgano más sagrado en la tierra. Es el lugar donde mora la plenitud de Dios. Es el sagrado cuerpo de Cristo. Es la casa donde la Deidad de Cristo esta.

La célula es una familia espiritual. De la misma manera que un niño es atendido por un padre o madre biológica, el creyente recién nacido es cuidado por su padre espiritual o por los padres y los miembros de la célula, su familia espiritual. La célula está formada por pequeñas unidades eclesiales, construyendo bloques en la Casa de Dios.

La mayor estructura del sistema celular con los dirigentes, entrenadores, celebraciones, etc., es el escenario perfecto para el crecimiento de los nuevos creyentes.

Cell churches emphasize both the celebration services and the small group meetings in homes. Both are important for the formation of disciples. The two spheres act in a coordinated way, rather than at odds with each another. One is the complement of the other.

Regarding the home meeting, we’ve already mentioned how disciples are formed through mentoring and through learning as they journey with other believers. In the large celebrations, the disciple is shaped through the teaching of God’s Word. In the Elim church in San Salvador, members are invited to attend three weekly “celebration” services on different days of the week. One of them is the Sunday service in which the teaching is evangelistic and aimed at new people.

But during the weekdays we have a second celebration in which a book of the Bible is studied verse by verse. This teaching is quite detailed and very informative. For example, it took us seven years to go through the entire gospel of Matthew. Books of both the New and Old Testaments are studied.

Finally, in the third celebration of the week, we study the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. This study is accompanied by a small book called “Handbook of Basic Doctrines,” which was written to be used as an additional resource for cell leaders. This book has become one of the best sellers of all times in El Salvador.

Thus, the formation of disciples is developed in a fairly complete way between inspirational messages, systematic studies, and mentoring in cells. In some Elim churches, it is not possible to meet three times a week in celebration. These churches meet twice: once on Sunday and once during the week. And the weekday meetings alternate between studying a book of the Bible and studying the basic Christian doctrines.

Discipulando en las células y en la celebración.

Las Iglesias celulares aplican igual importancia a sus celebraciones masivas como a sus reuniones pequeñas en las casas. En los dos ámbitos se produce la formación de nuevos discpulos. Las dos esferas actúan de manera coordinada y no independiente. La una es el complemento de la otra.

En el caso de la reunión en las casas, ya se ha mencionado el proceso por el que se forman nuevos discpulos a través del mentoreo y del “hacer en el camino”. En las grandes celebraciones, el discipulado se produce por medio de la enseñanza. En iglesia Elim, los miembros están invitados a participar de tres servicios semanales. Uno de ellos es el servicio del da domingo en el cual el enfoque de la enseñanza es básicamente evangelizadora y tiene como finalidad los nuevos invitados.

Pero, durante los das de semana se produce una segunda celebración en la cual se toma un libro de la Biblia y se va estudiando versculo a versculo. Esta enseñanza es bastante detallada y muy formativa. Por ejemplo, estudiar el evangelio de Mateo nos tomó un poco más de siete años. Se estudian libros tanto del Nuevo como del Antiguo Testamento.

Finalmente, en la tercera celebración de la semana, se desarrolla un estudio de doctrina básica de la fe cristiana. Este estudio se hace acompañar por un pequeño libro llamado “Manual de Doctrinas Básicas”, que fue escrito para ser utilizado como un recurso adicional por los lderes de células. Este libro se ha convertido en uno de los más vendidos de todos los tiempos en El Salvador.

De esta manera, la formación de discpulos se desarrolla de manera bastante completa entre mensajes inspirados, estudios sistemáticos y mentoreo en las células. En iglesias donde no es posible reunirse tres veces por semana en la celebración, solamente se reúnen dos. Una el domingo y la otra durante la semana. La reunión de la semana la alternan una parte del año para el estudio de un libro de la Biblia y la otra parte para el estudio de las doctrinas básicas.
