As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets (Mark 1:16-20).

When the disciples cast out their nets, they did it as a group. When Jesus told them that he would make them fishers of men, he was also thinking about group fishing. Jesus never sent the disciples out alone (Luke 9 & 10). He wanted His disciples to live out the Gospel before others so that the unbelievers might see their changed lives and believe in Him.

Group evangelism takes the pressure off one person. The group works better together. All are involved. All reach out. It’s not the experience of one person doing the work of the ministry, but everyone is involved and helping out. Cell evangelism is a shared experience. Everyone has a part to play. And this is where the discipleship occurs. It’s not the preacher’s job. It’s not on the shoulders of the evangelist. Each member is participating and growing in the process. Each person has a job, from the person who invites the guests, to the one who provides refreshments, to the one who leads the discussion. The team plans, strategizes, and finds new contacts together. Dale Galloway writes, “Once the list [of invitees] is built, the team begins to pray the prospect list, then to work it—making phone calls and home visitations. This responsibility can be shared with others in the small group” (The Small Group Book, p. 122)

Personal involvement matures people. God uses large group evangelism, like crusades and concerts, but the danger is a few people doing the work while the rest watch and stagnate. In cell group evangelism, there’s the shared responsibility which is critical for growth in discipleship. Depending on the lead pastor to do all the evangelism is not a biblical idea. God desires that each member is using his or muscles to reach out.

Crecimiento a través de Netfishing

Mientras Jesús caminaba junto al mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y a Andrés hermano de Simón, echando la red en el mar; porque eran pescadores. Jesús les dijo: “Venid en pos de m, y os haré pescadores de hombres.” De inmediato dejaron sus redes y le siguieron (Marcos 1:16-19).

Cuando los discpulos echaron sus redes, lo hicieron como un grupo. Cuando Jesús les dijo que les hara pescadores de hombres, también Jesús estaba pensando en la pesca del grupo. Jesús nunca mandó a los discpulos a solas (Lucas 9 y 10). Él quera que sus discpulos vivan el evangelio en la presencia de los demás para que los creyentes pudieran ver sus vidas cambiadas y creer en él.

Evangelismo en el grupo quita la presión de una persona. Todos están involucrados. Todos alcanzan a otras personas. No es la experiencia de una persona que hace la obra del ministerio, sino a todos se involucan y ayudan. Evangelismo celular es una experiencia compartida. Todos tienen un papel que desempeñar. Y en el proceso se produce el discipulado.

Debemos recordar que el evangelism no es el trabajo del predicador o el evangelista. Cada miembro participa y tiene un lugar importante de la persona que invita a otras personas, al que ofrece refrescos, y al que conduce la discusión. El equipo planea, strategizes, y encuentra nuevos contactos juntos. Dale Galloway escribe: “Una vez que se construye la lista de invitados, el equipo comienza a orar por la lista, y luego llama a los que están en la lista. Esta responsabilidad puede ser compartida con otros en el grupo” (The Small Group Book, p. 122).

Participación madura a todos en el grupo. Dios usa differentes maneras para evangelizar, como las cruzadas y conciertos, pero el peligro es depender en solo algunas personas para realizar el trabajo, mientras que los demás descansan y se estancan. En el grupo de evangelismo celular, hay una responsabilidad compartida, que es fundamental para el crecimiento en el discipulado. Depender en el pastor principal para evangelizar no es una idea bblica. Dios desea que cada miembro está utilizando los músculos espiriualies en el proceso de evangelismo.

Both individual and group evangelism are necessary. In individual evangelism, the tendency is to present the good news through words. No doubt this is an important resource to present Christ to others. Philip went to Samaria and spoke about Christ. But there is another way to present the gospel, and that is through the experiences that take place in Christian community. In the passage in Acts 2:44-47, where a description of the early Christians life in community is made, it is evident that people were attracted to Christian meetings precisely because they discovered unique behaviors and values among the believers. The passage speaks more of the people being attracted to Christians conduct rather than Christians inviting the people.

While throughout Christian history there have been great examples of both methods of evangelism, it is important to note the need for a balance between them. The personal testimony has to be balanced with the community testimony. Cells provide an excellent opportunity to testify through the body of believers living out their faith in the city. Cells are a biblical and effective resource to establish the necessary balance between the two evangelism methods.

Evangelización solitaria y comunitaria.

Lo que se encuentra a la base de la opción de evangelizar individualmente o en grupo es la manera de conceptualizar la evangelización. En la evangelización individual la tendencia es la presentación de la buenas nuevas por medio de palabras. Sin duda que este es un recurso importante para presentar a Cristo a otras personas. Felipe fue a Samaria y les hablaba acerca de Cristo.

Pero, hay otra manera de presentar el evangelio y es por medio de la vivencia que se produce en la comunidad cristiana. En el pasaje de Hechos 2:44-47, donde se hace una descripción de la vida en comunidad de los primeros cristianos, es evidente que las personas eran atradas a las reuniones cristianas precisamente porque descubran en los creyentes conductas y valores únicos. El pasaje habla más del pueblo atrado por la conducta de los cristianos antes que de cristianos invitando al pueblo.

Si bien a lo largo de la historia del cristianismo han existido grandes ejemplos de ambos métodos para la evangelización, es importante observar la necesidad de un equilibrio entre ellos. El dar testimonio a ttulo personal debe equilibrarse con el testimonio comunitario. Las células brindan una excelente oportunidad para dar testimonio por medio de los hechos de vida de los creyentes en toda la ciudad. Las células son un recurso bblico y efectivo para establecer el necesario equilibrio entre los dos métodos de evangelización.

Question: Is it possible to be a true disciple of Jesus and not be sharing one’s faith? How would the members of your group or church respond to that question? (And how are they answering that question with their lives now?)

When Jesus called his disciples, he said, “Follow me.” Follow him where? When Jesus turned and started walking, where was he going? It wasn’t going to a pot-luck dinner. It wasn’t even to a bible study. His answer: “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). To follow Jesus was to join Him on the mission He was on.

If we are going to help people become followers of Jesus, we must help them to desire what He desires and to be on the mission He is on. If we are going to help them be disciples, we need to help them be actively sharing the Gospel because that is what Jesus did. One cannot remove outreach to lost people from the story of Jesus’ life without distorting it. If we cut out the sharing of the Gospel from the book of Acts, there is no cohesive story line left. When we share our faith we grow spiritually in many ways:

• We learn to listen and respond to the promptings of the Spirit.
• We realize our lives must be living examples of the faith and pay attention to the way we interact with others.
• We deepen our understanding of and commitment to the Gospel as we share it.
• We recognize how important it is to show love by serving lost people.
• We focus our prayer on what matters to God.

Our faith grows best when we give it away. How do you help people grow in their ability to give their faith away?

Seguir a Jesús ¿A dónde?

Pregunta: ¿Es posible ser un verdadero discpulo de Jesús y no compartir la fe de uno? ¿Cómo podran los miembros de tu grupo o iglesia responder a esa pregunta? (¿Y cómo están respondiendo a esa pregunta con su vida ahora?)

Cuando Jesús llamó a sus discpulos, Él dijo: “Sgueme.” ¿Sguelo dónde? Cuando Jesús se volvió y comenzó a caminar, ¿A dónde iba? No iba a una cena de olla de la suerte. Ni siquiera fue a un estudio de la Biblia. Su respuesta: “a buscar y a salvar lo que estaba perdido” (Lucas 19:10). Para seguir a Jesús era para reunirse con él en la misión que estaba en marcha.

Si vamos a ayudar a las personas a convertirse en seguidores de Jesús, debemos ayudarlos a desear lo que Él desea y para estar en la misión que está. Si vamos a ayudarles a ser discpulos, tenemos que ayudarles a compartir activamente el Evangelio, porque eso es lo que hizo Jesús. No se puede eliminar el alcance a los perdidos de la historia de la vida de Jesús sin distorsionarla. Si cortamos el compartir el Evangelio en el libro de los Hechos, no hay ningún argumento coherente. Cuando compartimos nuestra fe crecemos espiritualmente de muchas maneras:

· Aprendemos a escuchar y responder a los susurros del Espritu.

· Nos damos cuenta que nuestras vidas deben ser ejemplos de la fe y prestar atención a la manera en que interactuamos con los demás.

· Profundizamos nuestra comprensión y compromiso con el Evangelio como lo compartimos.

· Reconocemos lo importante que es mostrar el amor al servir a las personas perdidas.

· Concentramos nuestra oración en lo que importa a Dios.

Nuestra fe crece mejor cuando le damos el todo. ¿Cómo ayudas a las personas a crecer en su capacidad de dar su fe?

Some believers excuse themselves from evangelizing with “I don’t have the gift of evangelism,” but evangelization is not a gift, it’s the responsibility of all believers. Cornelius complied with that responsibility when he invited Peter to speak to his family and close friends (Acts 10).Some believers think that God will use someone to save their families and friends as long as they don’t have to do it. Yet, they are mistaken. If they don’t speak to them, it’s difficult for them to be saved. God saved us to save others. He saved us when we were healthy and not when we were on our death beds (like the thief on the cross), because God wants us to be involved in evangelization. The person who rejoices in his or her own salvation but doesn’t want to get involved in saving others is not participating in God’s missional work in this world (1 Cor. 9:16 ).

The gift of the evangelist is a special ability to increase the capacity to evangelize, but even those who have the gift to evangelize would not have known that they have the gift, unless they had started to evangelize. Why? Because all of the gifts of the Spirit are discovered in the process of acting upon them. On the other hand, to think that the job of evangelizing only falls in the hands of the professionals is a an error. The main impact of evangelism throughout the world has been made by the small and unknown that have taken on their responsibility to evangelize. Adolph Harnack, the German Lutheran theologian (1851-1930), said: “The great mission of the expansion of Christianity was in reality done by spontaneous missionaries.”

Evangelizing others is not a gift; rather it’s the only opportunity that people have of being saved. People cannot find Christ alone. The world is not full of signs that say, “here’s how you find Jesus.” Rather, people are saved through the proclamation of the gospel. The scripture says in Romans 10: 14, “How, then , can they call on the one they have not believed in ? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” If there is no-one to preach Jesus, there will be no-one to hear, or accept him. But the Scripture also adds in Romans 10: 15, “And how can they preach unless they are sent?” In other words, nobody has the initiative to preach about Christ unless he has been sent. This means that we as Christian leaders should insist constantly that the Gospel is preached, and permanently send the believers to do it. When we don’t insist on evangelism, the motivation falls. We should not wait to see if evangelism happens, but we should send people to do it. And if we don’t want to seem heavy with our insistence, we must be creative, inventing ways to motivate people to evangelize. Yet, we should never stop insisting because God has ordained the preaching of the Gospel to save people.

Crecer en el discipulado a través del evangelismo.

Algunos creyentes se excusan en que no tienen el don de evangelismo, para no evangelizar. Pero evangelizar no es un don, es una responsabilidad de todo creyente. Una responsabilidad con su prójimo, especialmente con sus parientes y amigos más cercanos. Cornelio cumplió bien con esa responsabilidad cuando invitó a Pedro a hablarle a sus parientes y amigos más cercanos (Hechos 10). Algunos creyentes creen que Dios se valdrá de alguien que no sea ellos mismo para salvar su parientes y amigos más cercanos, pero se equivocan, si ellos no les hablan, difcilmente serán salvos. Dios nos salvó para salvar, y nos salvó ahora y no cuando estábamos a punto de morir, como el ladrón en la cruz, porque hay un trabajo de evangelización que hacer. Quien ha sido salvo y no quiere salvar ayudar a salvar a otros, yo me pregunto ¿qué hace en este mundo? (1Cor. 9:16).

El don de evangelista es una habilidad especial que incrementa la capacidad de evangelizar, pero incluso el que tiene el don de evangelista no lo hubiese descubierto si no se hubiese puesto a evangelizar, porque los dones se descubren actuando. Por otro lado, es un error incluso historico, pensar que la tarea de evangelizar recae sólo en manos de profesionales, de los que tiene ese don o esa capacidad. Porque en la expansión del evangelio por todo el mundo, incluso desde los comienzos de la iglesia, han sido los pequeños, los desconocidos y los comunes, los que más han desarrollado la tarea evangelizadora. De hecho Harnack, el teólogo luterano alemán (1851-1930) dijo: “Es imposible ver en ninguna clase de persona dentro de la iglesia a los principales agentes de la propaganda cristiana. La gran misión del cristianismo fue en realidad llevada a cabo por misioneros improvisados”.

La evangelización nos es un don, es la única oportunidad que tienen las personas para ser salvas. La gente no puede encontrar a Cristo por s sola. El mundo no está señalizado como para encontrar a Cristo, más bien todo lo contrario. A Cristo tampoco se le encuentra de casualidad sino de causalidad, siempre se da el caso de que alguien le llevó a ese corazón. Y la escritura dice en Romanos 10:14 “¿Cómo, pues, invocarán a aquel en el cual no han credo? ¿Y cómo creerán en aquel de quien no han odo? ¿Y cómo oirán sin haber quien les predique?”. Si no hay quien predique a Jesús, no hay quien oiga de él, ni quien lo acepte. Pero además añade en Romanos 10:15 “¿Y cómo predicarán si no fueren enviados?”, en otras palabras, nadie tiene la iniciativa de predicar a Cristo a menos que se le enve. Esto quiere decir que debemos insistir constantemente en que se predique el evangelio, enviar permanentemente al creyente a que lo haga. Cuando la insistencia no es constante la evangelización cae. Quien no insiste en que hay que ir, hace que nadie vaya. No debemos esperar que se evangelice debemos enviar a hacerlo. Y si no queremos caer pesados con nuestra insistencia, seamos creativos, inventemos formas de motivar a la evangelización, pero nunca dejemos de insistir en ello porque entonces nadie será salvo.

Coming to Jesus to receive forgiveness and salvation is the result of evangelism. Becoming like Jesus is the result of discipleship (no servant is greater than his Master, John 13:16)

Obedience is the key to becoming like Jesus (teach them to obey, Matthew 28:20). Conforming to the image of Christ is the result of spiritual formation (Romans 8:29, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Galatians 4:19). Offering these outcomes to others is evangelism; winning souls to Christ.

In 2006, Mision Cristiana Elim, San Salvador inspired me with these statements;

• I have a purpose
• My purpose is winning souls
• I fulfill my purpose best in a group (emphasis mine)
• I will never be satisfied until I fulfill my purpose
• I have no promise of tomorrow

Demonstrating love for those who do not know Jesus can be easily accomplished by a cell group as it purposefully and corporately reaches out to bless the pre-saved with a unified hand.

Love for Christ naturally results in love for others. Approaching evangelism as “something to do” can make it static, functional and even works oriented. Loving someone enough to serve their need (washing their feet) relaxes us to be sincere in the love of Christ. Hear the Apostle Peter as he addresses you and me:

You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart. For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. (1 Peter 1:22-25, NLT)

Passing along the Good News we have received is the result of our salvation, obedient discipleship, spiritual formation and unbridled love for others. Doing this as a group is fun, energizing and effective. How does your cell group work together to extend a unified hand of love? Discipulado celular y Evangelización

Venir a Jesús para recibir perdón y salvación es el resultado de la evangelización. Llegar a ser como Jesús es el resultado del discipulado (El siervo no es mayor que su señor, Juan 13:16)

La obediencia es la clave para llegar a ser como Jesús (enseñarles a obedecer, Mateo 28:20). Conforme a la imagen de Cristo es el resultado de la formación espiritual (Romanos 8:29, 2 Corintios 3:18, Gálatas 4:19) El ofrecer estos resultados a los demás es la evangelización, para ganar almas para Cristo.

En 2006, la Misión Cristiana Elim, San Salvador me inspiró con estas declaraciones;

• Tengo un propósito
• Mi propósito es ganar almas
• Cumplo mi propósito mejor en un grupo (el énfasis es mo)
• Nunca estaré satisfecho hasta que yo cumpla mi propósito
• No tengo la promesa del mañana

Demostrando el amor para aquellos que no conocen a Jesús se puede lograr fácilmente por un grupo de células, ya que a propósito y colectivamente se extiende para bendecir el pre-salvado con una mano unificada.

El amor de Cristo, naturalmente, se traduce en amor por los demás. Acercarse a la evangelización como “algo que hacer” puede hacerse estática, funcional e incluso trabajos dirigidos. Amar a alguien lo suficiente para servir su necesidad (lavarles los pies) nos relaja para ser sinceros en el amor de Cristo. Escuche al apóstol Pedro como se dirige a ti y a mi:

Usted fue limpiado de sus pecados cuando obedeciste la verdad, por lo que ahora debes mostrar amor sincero el uno al otro como hermanos y hermanas. Amaos los unos a los otros profundamente con todo tu corazón. Pues tú has nacido de nuevo, pero no a una vida que acabará rápidamente. Su nueva vida va a durar para siempre, porque es eterna, la palabra viva de Dios. Como dicen las Escrituras: “La gente es como la hierba, su belleza es como una flor en el campo. La hierba se seca y la flor se marchita. Pero la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre. “Y esa palabra es el Evangelio que os ha sido anunciada. (1 Pedro 1:22-25, NVI)

Pasando a todos la Buena Nueva que hemos recibido es el resultado de nuestra salvación, discipulado obediente, formación espiritual y amor desenfrenado por los demás. Hacer esto como grupo es divertido, energizante y efectivo. ¿Cómo funciona tu grupo celular conjuntamente para extender una mano unificada al amor? ¿Ve usted la conexión entre compartir la Buena Nueva y el discipulado continuo?
